If the cop had really “lost control” he would’ve gone for whatever he’s got that just short of his service weapon...I couldn’t tell from the part of the video I saw, but he was fully justified in whipping out the pepper spray or baton/Maglite if he had one IMO. I agree that he showed restraint and handled a bad situation about as well as it could be handled

Dunphy makes a point in the article, though, noting that nobody tried to help the officer. It may sound easy to say that on the surface, but take a look at the crowd that had gathered. If you were Joe Public walking down the street, would you jump into the middle of that mess not knowing how many friends those two girls had backing them up? I assume that the guy restraining the one that got punched was with them somehow. Grabbing one of those girls while trying to help the officer would stand a serious chance of touching off one hell of a brawl.

...I’m not bothered by the punch at all...but I’ll tell you one thing....if this had taken place in say Baltimore....at night....the mob would have shot the cop and then run away....and nobody would have seen anything.

You take your chances when you “swing” on a Cop trying to do their job...

Ahhhh. I get it. Yeah. Her jaw was a deterrent. Too bad his authority wasn’t.

Every one of those people standing around were hoping for a Rodney King Million dollar moment.

Maybe, but the other girl was also still fighting him. The punch to the face quickly eliminated one threat and let him concentrate on the first girl, who he was still trying to restrain.

You could tell that the punchee wasn’t expecting the cop to actually fight back against her, that much is obvious. She was all pumped up when she got all “oh no you DIN’T” in his face...after the punch, she was turtling up before the guy grabbed her and yanked her out of there. Typical liberal. She picks a fight and doesn’t know what to do when the target actually fights back.

THANK YOU!

Sure glad I scrolled all the way. Chris Rock is the gold standard for interaction between potential non/malefactors and the police force continuum.

That was his voice in the back of my mind when I saw this video.

Cheers!

Yes, of course.
But the court of public opinion does not matter.

Two out of control, totally undisciplined females, neither small. Violently resisting detention. The officer appeared to use just enough force to to protect himself. On the local Chicago radio this morning, a breathless journalist asked his Seattle counterpart if the cop had a history of violence. The counterpart did not know. Our reporter did NOT, of course, ask if the two gals had records. I bet it was not their first run in with the police.

I thought he needed better training and quicker backup.

Both girls have criminal records and one, I don’t remember which one, was charged with assaulting a female King county deputy sheriff.

This is their job, provoking the cop and then suing, nice they got all the cameras rolling

No - there was one guy smart enough to try to restrain the large girl right before she went after the cop. Holding on to her arm or shirt.

I think the cop was restrained and under control very well. If he had gone “over the top” why was he still trying, as gently as he could, to get cuffs on the smaller girl. Obviously he could have had the smaller girl on the ground with her face in the sidewalk if he had wanted to.

He should have punched both of them ,,, pulled out his tazer and tazed both of them ,,, and while they were more agreeable ,,,, cuff em’ .

From the article:

But in watching the video you can see that though [officer] Walsh might have an inch or so on Rosenthal [the girl who shoved him], she doesn’t give up much to him in the way of raw tonnage.

"Raw tonnage". I love it.

If you notice the girl that got punched looked right at the camera then got involved.

She knew it was being recorded and was trying to create an incident.

If it was to go to trial I would like to be on that jury!

From what I saw he was. If a women wants to be treated as a lady best she act like one.

I was in a bar once when a women was going bonkers, throwing bottles, cussing and screaming. The cop who answered the call was a little guy, he tried to grab her and she proceeded to kick his butt. This was back before tasers and mace. I moved in to help him and she was still winning the ruckus, then he lost his temper and hooked her in the jaw. All I could think is why the hell no one cold cocked her sooner.

I’m the first one to cry foul when I see the police overstep their authority but I have to give kudos to that cop! He showed remarkable restraint. That ‘young lady’ was interfering in an arrest and she assulted the officer. She’s lucky she was able to walk away. I’d have like to have seen the a-hole running his mouth get his ass kicked too.
