Sarah Palin says recreational pot smoking is "relatively speaking a minimal problem" in America.

"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," she said. "If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."
Allen St. Pierre, the director of NORML, which supports liberalizing drug laws, said Palin's position on pot is perfectly in line with her identity as a politician.
"If you're a populist as she appears to be, it's maybe not that surprising," he told AOL News in a phone interview today.

They don't. They advocate people should try and avoid the excessive use of Government.
That sounds like a good law. I think that you should be able to grow any plant in your own house.
I don’t quite understand how possession and cultivation relate. If you are cultivating 24 plants, you’re likely to end up with more than one ounce. Is the possession something that you can carry with you, while 24 plants worth can only be in your house?
I understand the point about message to the kids. I don’t want to see name brand marijuana cigs sold in convenience stores. I don’t want to see tv ads for those pot cigs. But if it’s legal to grow 24 plants in your house, or, presumably, outside on your property, I’m not sure how that sends a bad message to the kids.
I don’t smoke pot or go with girls that do, but I agree with Palin: there are more important things for cops to be doing. Like arresting illegal alien criminals.
If Ron Paul doesn’t run, Ron Paul’s supporters will have to choose someone else.
Also, it’s consistent with Conservative principles. Unless we’re no longer for small government.
And, pro marijuana is the popular position these days. More popular than gay marriage. So, Palin would be going after the 50%+ that support legalization.

It seems that what liberals seem to want out of this whole marijuana legalization thing is “no discrimination against marijuana users”. The Maine referendum had a bit of that in there. The restaurant should be able to fire the waitress if the customers are unhappy with her, or for any reason whatsoever. The employer should be able to fire workers for being high at work. If they fired the stoned waitress, you wouldn’t have a problem with a stoned waitress.
There are plenty of pills that are prescribed that have pronounced psychological effects. Those aren’t illegal.
One reason why it isn’t illegal right now is they haven’t figured out who exactly would get super rich off of it, and the people who would get super rich haven’t started lobbying to legalize it.

Everything I just stated has happened, either in this nation or Netherlands. Legalized marijuana increases marijuana use, all drug usage, drug trafficking and drug-related highway fatalities.
That's why marijuana was decriminalized in several states in the 1970s and quickly criminalized again.
How many citizens are you will to see die so you or other potheads can smoke weed?
I think that's the issue here. What should the law enforcement priorities be?
And, frankly, marijuana use is pretty far down the scale -- just below breaking & entering, just above drunk driving.

Young people who smoke marijuana are two to five times more likely to move on to harder drugs. That is the formal opinion of researchers, who published their conclusions from a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
It is also the informal conclusion of two recent high school graduates who talked with Family News in Focus. The two, who asked that their names remain anonymous, said they no longer smoke marijuana, but that most of the kids they smoked pot with in high school went on to harder drugs and aren't able to hold jobs.
"I realized how bad it disappointed my parents," she said. "My dad cried and so I stopped."
The JAMA study followed 311 sets of identical twins; one smoked pot while the other did not. Twins were chosen to help rule out a genetic or social explanation for the gateway effect. Almost half of the young people who started smoking marijuana before 17 went on to use harder drugs later in life. The study is the latest to suggest the link between marijuana and other drugs like cocaine and heroin. However, Howard Simon, of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, said regardless of the evidence some still dispute the findings.

Adults who used marijuana as children are 17 times more likely to be regular cocaine users.

Love it. We smoke a doob every now and then and the fact pot is illegal but bicardi 151 and everclear are? Thats the real crime.
