Obama says GOP making life harder for the jobless

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Saturday pinned blame on Republicans for making life harder for the unemployed and for those who could lose their jobs without new federal intervention. He did so even as he sought to distance himself from the "dreary and familiar politics" of Washington.

Capping a week in which the administration scored a victory — a $20 billion fund to be paid by BP for the victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill — Obama reserved his radio and Internet address to focus on the work that didn't get done.

His main concern was the rejection of a bill in the Senate that would have provided more money for the long-term unemployed, aid for strapped state governments and the renewal of popular tax breaks for businesses and individuals.

"If this obstruction continues, unemployed Americans will see their benefits stop," Obama said. "Teachers and firefighters will lose their jobs. Families will pay more for their first home. All we ask for is a simple up or down vote. That's what the American people deserve."

The last thing Obama needs is a millions of unemployed march on DC this Summer or Fall.

Of course, the irony is not missed here.. DemocRats remain profligate spenders, borrowers, regulators and hypocrits.. How many new panels, commissions and agencies came to life in the last month alone?

Interesting...

- White House controlled by Democrats
- House controlled by Democrats
- Senate controlled by Democrats
- Purse strings controlled by Democrats
- Republicans to blame for poor treatment of unemployed

One of these statements is false. I’ll leave it to the reader to determine which one...

If he can’t put you to work for big government he wants you beholden to big government — aka lifelong unemployment insurance. There was a report two weeks ago that summer employers were looking to hire older unemployed v high school or college kids and the older unemployed were turning it down saying they “wanted to enjoy their summer off”...... well why not if the government will pay you to go to the beach who is the fool? Answer: those of us working our rears off year round is who.

He keeps forgetting that the democrats are in control of both houses, and he can get any thing passed.. he needs to quit blaming the republicans... but then he always has to blame some one

Only the AP thinks the 20B is a victory. BP is getting off cheap, some estimates are claiming it could go as high as 67B.

After a hard day on AF1 flying to and from Ohio and then a loss at the ballpark ..

a man just needs a little time to unwind and spend time with family.

This is all about getting Republicans to compromise or they're going to hang the unemployed stuff over their heads.

Republicans need to wake up and realize what's going on.

President Barack Obama on Saturday pinned blame on Republicans for making life harder for the unemployed and for those who could lose their jobs without new federal intervention.

Ignoring the fact that the GOP currently doesn't have enough votes to stop the Dems from passing these bills, most of the unemployed had jobs when the GOP controlled the White House and Congress.

Zero, the GOP is NOT making things harder on the jobless. It’s the failed financial policies embraced by the DemocRATS that is.
