Sen. Robert Byrd, the longest serving senator in U.S. history, is in serious condition in a Washington area hospital, according to aides to the West Virginia Democrat.
According to a statement from Byrds staff released Sunday afternoon, the senator was admitted to the hospital late last week suffering from what was believed to be heat exhaustion and severe dehydration as a result of the extreme temperatures. He was expected to remain in the hospital not more than a few days.
The statement added: However, upon further examination by his doctors, other conditions have developed which has resulted in his condition being described as serious.
Byrds office did not say which hospital he was in, although Byrds doctors described his condition as seriously ill.

heat exhaustion and severe dehydration as a result of the extreme temperatures. He's too stupid to stay inside with the A/C? No shock from a 'Rat Klansman...
Should have gotten one of those fluorescent crosses for the Klan meeting. They don't produce as much extra heat.

Maybe he was standing to close to a burning cross.
I bet those Klan robes don’t ventilate very well.

The best possible outcome would be that Byrd goes to caucus with the Kennedys.

Byrd should receive the finest funeral and highest honor by the KKK and Democrat Party for their former Grand Wizard.

Put ice creak, milk and chocolate in a large cup. Secure the lid. Have Sen Byrd hold it for about 2 minutes. Presto...ready to drink.

I live in WV and what I hear is that Gov Manchin would love to follow Ole Sheets! For a Dem he is pretty conservative, having tried to lower taxes here and standing up to the teachers union. Of course I have no illusions about how he will be if he gets to Washington!

I regard Sen. Byrd to be one of the greatest living
intellectual Hypocrites to occupy a seat in the United States Senate. Byrd in case after case has portrayed himself as a solemn and Solomon- like arbiter of Senate ethics and the keeper of the flame which illuminates the history, traditions, and rules of the Senate. He trots out the shibboleths to extol the Senate and, not incidentally, himself as repositories of virtue and dispassionate legislative responsibility.
But at the end of the day, he finds a way to slip his own intellectual noose and vote with every other leftist in his party. The act toward the end that become so predictable that it bordered on burlesque.
He is a positive genius at giving himself cover for the folks back home in West Virginia who do not share his leftist bent. If we are in fact witnessing the passing of the man whose major preoccupation in the United States Senate was to pave every square millimeter of West Virginia and name it after himself, one can only wonder if he has arranged for his own grave to be paved over.

Methinks his last request will be to be laid at Arlington, why it never bothered him how much asphalt was set down in WVa in his name.

If the Senator doesn’t make it, does anyone know the rules in WV for replacing him? Is there a special election to replace him or does the governor choose a replacement to finish his term?

I wish him no ill, but it IS long past time he stepped aside for another Senator to better represent his state. (This isn’t a partisan comment. I said the same of Strom Thurmond in HIS dotage.)

"f the Senator doesnt make it, does anyone know the rules in WV for replacing him?" Gubernatorial selection, as discussed a few posts up.

Byrd was a prominent KKK member.
There are reports that he was actually a recruiter for them.
I have no tolerance for the KKK, in any way or shape or ‘he's a Leftist so give him a break’.
No baby, not from me. He should die and go to hell.
Just my opinion.
