A lot depends on how the question is phrased. Your poll did not have a "don't know/don't care" column. A 2009 Gallup poll has:

39% believe in evolution;

25% do not believe in evolution (ie creationism of some sort);

36% no opinion;

1% didn't answer;

So firm believers in creationism are a distinct minority of the populace.

Many who "believe in Evolution", believe that God guided the process, and would like their children to be taught that as well.

I think that the Theory of Evolution is pseudo-scientific tomfoolery all-around, but my strongest objection is to Atheistic Evolutionism, not so much Theistic Evolutionism.

Creationists will have our schools.
Theistic Evolutionists will have theirs.
Atheistic Evolutionists are not very numerous to begin with, and don't breed many children.

Give us our Money back, and he who pays the piper calls the tune.
