The Unlikeable Palin
American Conservative ^ | 7/2/10 | Daniel Larison

Outside of Republicans, she’s not popular at all. According to our NBC/WSJ poll, just 29% view her favorably, compared with 43% who view her unfavorably (not far from George W. Bush’s 29%-50% score). In addition, the poll shows that 52% have problems with a candidate who has been endorsed by Palin, versus only 25% who are comfortable with that attribute. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Palin is more of a political celebrity than a political figure. ~First Read

This is true, but there is nothing here about Palin that we know now that we didn’t already know a year or a year and a half ago. Her unfavorables among non-Republicans have gone up steadily since the Republican convention in 2008, and outside of a dedicated core of admirers and a few critics no one is taking her political chances seriously. This is the same as it has been for a very long time. As Josh Green notes, it would normally be absurd to think that someone with a 14-point favorability deficit was a serious presidential contender, and there aren’t that many non-partisans who think that she is anything of the kind. The reality is that the more independents and Democrats see of Palin, the less they like. In a country where these people make up at least 65% of the electorate, Palin is essentially unelectable in a general election. This isn’t a difficult call to make. The question to which we don’t know the answer yet is whether the GOP is so willfully blind to this reality and so bent on self-destruction in 2012 that the party nominates her anyway. For all of the reasons I have given before, I very much doubt that Republicans are this foolish. It is possible that the GOP will decide

Exactly so. Her detractors are trying to stop her from getting her honest shot and she’s worked hard for it.

Well, she’s going to get it and she’s going to be our nomineee. There’s nobody better and nobody comes close to her.

In the last 12 months, I didn’t realize there were this many stupid citizens in this country. I guess I’d better start stocking more ammo....

Thw polling business is as corrupt as everything else in politics these days, it seems. Ask Markos over at the Daily Kos about that. He's sueing his pollster for fraud.

I think Rasmussen is an honest guy and tries to do the right thing but he is a Romney supporter. Think there might be a correlation between that and the fact he hasn't done a Palin/Obama matchup poll in over 6 months? Food for thought. :)

"Her detractors are trying to stop her from getting her honest shot"

She'd have a lot less detractors if she wouldn't quit when the going gets rough.

Well Gov. Palin did have a firewall between herself and 23 bogus ethics complaints.

The President however does have a firewall it called the Counselor Office you know the presidents own lawyer.

So why all the ferocious attacks? The Communists are scared witless of her!;)

“My guess is that Romney will be our next President.”

Romney cannot get past the GOP primary process. I actually think that Huckabee stands a better chance than Romney of getting the GOP nomination. However, I think Palin could beat either of them in a primary.

I’m trying to be logical and not biased (not actually possible), but of the three Palin, Romney, and Huckabee. I believe that Palin has the best chance of getting the nominatin, but I think that in a general election that Huckabee is more likely to win of the three.

Although, I think folks need to keep watching Jindal. He might be a very good pick.

Exactly. When ever I see a poll, the first thing I do is look at who conducted the thing as most have results which are agenda oriented. In regards to Romney, other than not caring for his lack of core values, I honestly think he is another McCain like candidate, who would guarantee another four years of Democrat control.
