Vice President Joe Biden had surprising words of praise for former President George W. Bush today in Iraq.
Biden usually speaks contemptuously of Bush or steals credit for Bush's accomplishment in Iraq and claims it for Barack Obama.
Speaking in Baghdad with Mike Allen of Politico, Biden's compliment was spare, but a huge change from his usual verbal shoes hurled at Bush:
I think America wins, Biden told POLITICO in an end-of-trip interview at the ambassadors residence in the sprawling U.S. embassy complex. I sound corny, but I think America gets credit here in the region. And I think everybody gets credit, from George Bush to [President Obama].
I think Americans will recognize that there arent body counts . . .that they got 95,000 people home. That will be noticeable that theyre home."
Biden also raised the idea that Obama is playing politics with the troop drawdown in Iraq by telling Politico it would benefit the Democrats in the November House and Senate elections:
Biden said improved conditions in Iraq will bolster Democrats with voters in November.
They are going to take a look and see that the president kept his promise getting troops home, which will give them more confidence in the foreign policy he set, Biden said.
Last February, Biden bragged on CNN's Larry King Live that Iraq "could be one of the great achievements of this administration."
YOU GET NO CREDIT JOE YOU AND THE DEMOCRATS UNDERMINED THIS WAR UNTIL YOU GOT POWER.
How can politico afford to send people to Baghdad? They can’t have that many pageviews.
That’s the problem with history. It only runs through once.
Libs & leftists take advantage of that fact all the time.
You can’t prove how much they screwed things up.
You have to have an inner sense of things. Which unfortunately seems to be a bit too much for the general public.
Not surprised that Joe supports Bush. When push comes to shove, after all, the Demopublican leadership are all part of the same criminal class.
LOL!
It’s always amazed me how Bush just allowed these people to write his legacy.
I’m not sure what he was supposed to do, but it always seemed strange to me.
Slow-Joe was the idiot that wanted to Balkanize Iraq into 3 separate countries who would have fought with each other for decades to come.
LOL and Cheney would call Biden a real Clymer.
It seemed to me that Bush allowed God to vindicate him, there were too many to fight on his own. The hardest part is letting time show who your real enemies are.
During his administration we didn’t realize all that is being exposed now arrayed against America at work to destroy from within. Or at least as I’m seeing it now.
I sound corny, but I think America gets credit here”
He thinks giving America credit is corny. A little too sincerely grateful and patriotic? Not worldly and sophisticated enough?
Joe, it’s ok to love your country and give it credit. It doesn’t mean you’ve morphed into a Hallmark card or a Care Bear. It means you’re capable of honest human feeling about something really important.
Obama does not deserve credit for ANY of the success in Iraq...... none, period.
Was he drunk?
Whether directly or through channels, I believe Bush is involved behind the scenes.
Uh oh...maybe this is a new political strategy. A new “Be nice to Bush” campaign...let’s face it... this constant “Blame it on Bush” is beginning to have a backfire aspect, really exaggerating the Dems’ lame-brained stupidity. What could be better than kicking off the new campaign with the original bozo biden himself?
What makes you think this? Sources, or personal insight...?
No mention that Bush actually planned to have the troops withdrawn sooner than Obama. Bush just didn’t want to commit a date.
Obama gets no credit whatsoever. He had nothing to do with this victory and would have derailed it if he'd had half a chance.
By the way Biden, not cool of you to come and flaunt the Bush Administration's victory in the Iraqis' faces.
It's over. Saddam is gone. We've all kissed and made up. Flaunting it is uncalled for.
Bye bye, BiteMe! Go screw up some other place's traffic now.
