Joe Biden sees Iraq success for President Obama
politico.com ^ | July 5, 2010

Posted on 07/05/2010 11:45:22 AM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

BAGHDAD — Vice President Joe Biden said after a three-day trip to Baghdad that the American people will see President Barack Obama’s Iraq policy as a success when the “combat mission” ends on schedule Aug. 31. Biden said the administration “will be able to point to it and say, ‘We told you what we’re going to do, and we did it.’”

“I think America wins,” Biden told POLITICO in an end-of-trip interview at the ambassador’s residence in the sprawling U.S. Embassy complex. “I sound corny, but I think America gets credit here in the region. And I think everybody gets credit, from George Bush to [President Obama].

“I think Americans will recognize that there aren’t body counts ... that they got 95,000 people home. That will be noticeable that they’re home."

The chief purpose of Biden’s visit was to prod Iraqi politicians to form a government and end a four-month stalemate that followed parliamentary elections. The vice president said security in the country “doesn’t really relate to whether there’s a government formed or not.”

“The government that is the interim government now — a little like our interregnum period between November and January — is actually functioning in terms of security,” he said. “I am hopeful — I am confident — that in the relatively near term, they’re going to be able to work out an agreement on ... the new government.”

Well plugs...since it’s a success and your bringing the troops home....instead of a handshake and kick out the door....put them on the border when they get here.

Yeah. In the unemployment lines. Barry flushed their chances of getting civilian jobs.

He's not BSing the Iraqis. Or us either. The Iraqis named a street in Baghdad George W. Bush Boulevard.

And when Field Marshal Gen. Petreaus fixes Afghanistan, there will be a street named after him too.

Since those written languages look like graffiti in a NY subway toilet stall, maybe I can learn to read them.

There can’t be much arrogance or hypocrisy in the general population. The left has it ALL!! After attacking the war for years and declaring it LOST, Hussein and his buffoon VP want to claim credit for victory. Incredible, ain’t it.

“Obama inherited the Iraq success.”

Exactly. This administration is quick to blame GWB for all the things that have gone wrong, yet taciturn when it comes to giving GWB credit for successes. The reality is, had we followed Barack Obama’s advice on Iraq (pullout by 2008), we never would have had the chance to enjoy our success there. But don’t expect Biden or Obama to acknowledge “Bush was right, we were wrong about the surge strategy in Iraq.”

It makes perfect sense in ObamaWorld: Iraq is an Obama success and the economy is a Bush failure. It’s so clear to me now.

Obama had NOTHING to do with the victory in Iraq.

Iraq was won before the 2008 election.

Otherwise, Obama would have screwed it up.

Obama is such a failure that these scumbags are trying to grab onto anything that they can claim as a success - but Obama had nothing whatsoever to do with Iraq.

Even if he'd wanted to (and he didn't), he simply doesn't have what it takes.

Iraq is Bush's victory. And Petraeus's.

Except you "we" folk said you were going to do it the first thing 0bama is elected. That means you're gonna be about 22 months passed the "able to point to it" point, Joe.

As though ANYone in history, save a few ultra-left 0bama suck-ups will credit anything in Iraq to *0bama's policy* re. Please already.

But, but, Mr. Biden...it was an ‘illegal’ war wasn’t it? That’s what your boss and his friends said, didn’t they? Well, Mr. Vice President, what do you have to say now about it? Then he himself, wanted to divide the country up like a pie; whether the Iraqis wanted that or not! Good grief!

Now they want to claim credit for what they claimed was an ‘illegal’ war! grumble, grumble..

For all intents and purposes, the combat mission really ended last summer.

And after September 1, troops will still be here. Just not as many as in the past.

Even after December 31, 2011, the U.S. will maintain a presence here, both military and diplomatic.

Obama calls for immediate withdrawal from Iraq

Associated Press
CLINTON, Iowa — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is calling for the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. combat brigades from Iraq, with the pullout being completed by the end of next year.

“Let me be clear: There is no military solution in Iraq and there never was,” Obama said in excerpts of the speech provided to The Associated Press.

“The best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq’s leaders to resolve their civil war is to immediately begin to remove our combat troops. Not in six months or one year — now,” the Illinois senator says.

LOL - I dealt with naysayers on here back in '05 and '06 when this place was freakin' insane. I kept saying that we were going to prevail, and several FReeper reviled me and called me delusional and other such delights.

Now that the U.S. has clearly won this thing, I still get the gloom-and-doom crowd.

I guess there are some who are (not so) secretly bummed out that we triumphed in this one?

Go figger. ;-)

I bet we will still have plenty of force protection troops in Iraq for some time to protect our Embassy, NGOs, and other USG-sponsored assistance groups in Iraq plus some advisors. We won’t be going down to zero in terms of troops any time soon. This will be just “combat forces.”
