McCain breaks away as critical support eludes Hayworth
Arizona Capitol Times ^ | July 2, 2010 | Jeremy Duda

Posted on 07/05/2010 11:37:17 PM PDT by tlb

First, it was Sarah Palin. Then it was Arizona Right to Life and the National Rifle Association. Most recently, the revered National Review gave its imprimatur to McCain.

When Hayworth entered the race in January, McCain was at his most vulnerable point in decades. Polling showed McCain had a lead within the margin of error and was struggling to redefine himself as a Republican loyalist. But polls now show McCain with a solid lead.

Baker said the McCain campaign may have engineered a sort of domino effect: Each endorsement shows the next group that backing McCain is a safer bet than it may have first appeared, and Republican voters seem to be following the same trend.

McCain has focused Hayworth’s reputation in Congress as a pork-barrel spender, a serious offense to many conservatives. And the senator has run an undeniably negative campaign against Hayworth, openly mocking him and attacking his credibility.

The McCain campaign has posted videos online poking fun at Hayworth for questioning the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, suggesting that allowing gay marriage could pave the way for men to wed horses, and especially for appearing in a 2007 infomercial urging people to take advantage of “free money” from government grants.

The infomercial for the National Grants Conferences has been the most damning revelation yet, combining the promotion of government spending with a host of informercial stereotypes. It prompted the popular FOX News personality Glenn Beck to declare that Hayworth’s campaign is over.

If McCain had a more conservative challenger, National Review wrote, the endorsement might have gone elsewhere. But while Hayworth’s record is conservative, the article read, it isn’t conservative enough to make a compelling case against McCain.

“He may not be Marco Rubio, but he’s not Arlen Specter either,” the editorial said of McCain.

Again, you keep using the word “lie” but you have only applied that to one of the banned posters and I have not seen a post that exposes any of the “lies”. Granted, one post was obliterated, but another is still up there.

Honestly, I want to know what the lies are.

Chris Simcox who is now supporting JD Hayworth and who has been advising him.

Who is Simcox.......
A judge in Phoenix granted an order of protection on April 16, ordering Simcox to surrender his firearms and stay at least 200 yards away from his family.

In her petition for an order of protection, Alena Simcox, 30, his third wife, alleges that she came home from shopping Nov. 29 to find her husband intoxicated.

She writes that he threatened her with a gun, “repeatedly pointed it at me, saying he was going to kill me, and my kids, and the police.”

Alena Simcox describes a six-hour ordeal during which she locked herself and her three children in a bedroom until he passed out at 2 a.m. Afraid for her safety, she did not call the police.

“He was waiting by the door for the police to come, with a gun pointed at me,” she wrote.

Alena Simcox also described a separate incident on Aug. 22, 2009: “On our wedding anniversary, he was drinking and angry. Got a revolver gun and loaded with kids present.

Then proceeded to ask me to ‘shoot him.’ I said ‘no,’ so then he said he would shoot the entire family and cops.”
Neither Chris Simcox nor his lawyer responded to requests for comment from The Associated Press.

The alleged threats are the latest episode in a troubled family life for Chris Simcox.

His first wife accused him of trying to molest their teenage daughter, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil-rights group that has warned about extremism in the Minuteman movement.

His second wife filed an emergency motion to obtain full custody of their teenage son because it seemed Chris Simcox was undergoing a mental breakdown and growing dangerous after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the SPLC reported in 2005, based on an examination of court records in Los Angeles.

In April 2004, a federal judge sentenced Chris Simcox to two years of probation for carrying a firearm on national forest property..........
People who keep informed knew what Simcox’s background was to start with and knew McCain was far better than this
fringe lunatic.

JD Hayworth accepted Simcox’s endorsement whith his background being common knowledge.

JD Hayworth was late entering the primary because he had to pay back the money to convicted felon Jack Abramoff.

Rep.J.D. Hayworth the largest single recipient of Abramoff related money and co-chairman of the Congressional Native American Caucus, has received more than $150,000 from Indian tribes once represented by Abramoff.

You being unwilling to respond is very convenient for you, but the only potential lie that regards Hayworth is that he knew about Simcox’ past and “accepted” his endorsement.

Let’s face it, there are lots of endorsements accepted from people who aren’t perfect. The correct response isn’t to brand it a lie but to say, “So what? McCain was endorsed by Lindsay Graham.”

If that’s a dealbreaker, there won’t be any endorsements. Besides “accepting an endorsement” is a huge range. Reagan accepted the endorsement of the Log Cabin crowd saying that he was happy that they agreed with him.

If you call somebody a liar, you’d better have countering facts and if you ban someone for making arguments you can’t counter, then you’re admitting that you can’t win the argument.

That isn’t the issue. It really isn’t. We aren’t a bunch of Twilight readers who have to decide “Team Jacob/Team Edward”.

I’m not an Arizonan and I haven’t given money to either candidate.

I won’t support Hayworth just because I want my pound of flesh from McCain. I am willing to acknowledge that “not McCain” might be worse than McCain. With Hayworth being significantly younger, that is a much bigger issue than for McCain who is unlikely to finish his term. Frankly, I’m just not well-informed on the race. Early on, it could be said that I was more sympathetic to Hayworth, which you are welcome to quote from my old posts.

Of course, at this point it doesn’t seem to matter because Arizona Republicans seem to have moved to McCain.

Well, look, this is FR. FR is a conservative site. We aggressively defend our first amendment rights to fight against unconstitutional government.

John McCain worked with the Democrats to craft an unconstitutional anti-free speech bill (McCain-Feingold) and got it passed into law. This bill gave big advantages to the liberals and helped them take control of the congress. John McCain is an enemy of the constitution. John McCain is an enemy to Liberty. John McCain is an enemy of conservatism. John McCain is my enemy.

John McCain works with the Democrats every chance he gets. He fights for Obama’s idiotic/fraudulent economy-killing unconstitutional Cap and Tax global warming sham wow program (McCain-Lieberman Climate Stewardship Act). He fights for comprehensive immigration reform (McCain-Kennedy), aka amnesty, which would destroy this country. He formed a gang of 14 Republicans and Democrats in the senate to fight against conservatives.

FR promotes the Tea Party Rebellion 100%.

TARP was the last straw for many of us and was the spark that set off the Tea Party movement. John McCain championed TARP. He suspended his campaign and rushed back to DC, not to fight for the constitution, Liberty and capitalism, but to champion the unconstitutional socialist TARP program. He had an opportunity to set himself apart from Bush and Obama and fight for Liberty, but he went for Marxism instead. His support for TARP killed his chances for the presidency and ushered in Obama and the era of Marxism. Now he wants to work with Obama.

John McCain did and does as much as any Democrat to kill our economy, kill our constitution, kill our Liberty, kill our economy, kill America. More than Kennedy you ask? Well, yes, he partnered up with Kennedy in McCain-Kennedy. More than Obama? Well, yes, he’s pushing comprehensive immigration reform and Cap and Tax. He says we have nothing to fear from Obama.

John McCain is a liar. He has a solid history of pushing for amnesty. Even has an amnesty bill with his name on it (McCain-Kennedy). Now that he’s facing a serious conservative challenger, he’s desperate and scared and singing a different tune. It’s sickening to watch.

McCain is a useful idiot (look it up). McCain is the enemy within (look it up). McCain is a traitor to the constitution he has sworn an oath to defend both as a naval officer and elected representative. John McCain IS a traitor.

John McCain is my enemy.

You are NOT going to defend or support John McCain on FR and survive.

If we cannot fight for conservatism on FR, where can we?

If we cannot fight for conservatism during the primaries, when can we?

If you support and campaign for traitors like John McCain, you are on the wrong website.

In short, if you give aid and comfort to my enemy, I don’t want you around.

John McCain is my enemy.

You say McCain's an enemy because he has allied himself with Democrats far too often. I think that's true and I get frustrated and angry at it. But I'm not myopic and I won't throw a tantrum because I didn't get my way. If I get one vote better than a Democrat, then I'll take that over the actual Democrat. The true enemy is Obama and Pelosi and Reid. Period.

If we cannot fight for conservatism on FR, where can we?

"We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender" -- Winston Churchill

With all due respect, this is just an internet forum. Just like Little Green Footballs or FrumForum (or whatever he's calling it now). Men and women greater and more noble than I have fought for principles of conservatism in places with greater impact and greater risk than an internet forum.

If we cannot fight for conservatism during the primaries, when can we?

Please do. Advocate for your candidate, oppose your opponent. And, most importantly, present good arguments that counter the ones of your opposition.

Has it occurred to you that, perhaps, by not presenting a place where supporters of Hayworth could effectively argue against the arguments of McCain supporters that Hayworth's campaign got soft and insulated?

What if this approach is counterproductive? The great advantage of the conservative movement is that liberals are so uninformed. They've gotten weak because they think that everybody agrees with them.

In short, if you give aid and comfort to my enemy, I don’t want you around.

That's your right. But moving McCain so far and forcing him to take positions in opposition to his previous positions is a major success. More importantly, he's locked himself in to some of these. Take the victory and use it. Don't fight battles that are over.

I believe that true conservatism is persuasive and compassionate. I don't believe that it operates by aping the Left's organizational paradigms.

Soooooo.....Simcox is ADVISING J.D. Hayworth????

Undoubtedly. The question is whether JD is listening.

” JD Hayworth accepted Simcox’s endorsement whith his background being common knowledge. “

Bare-faced lie.

OK. It's common knowledge now, I assume.

” JD Hayworth was late entering the primary because he had to pay back the money to convicted felon Jack Abramoff. “

Bare-faced lie.

OK. Cite it. Frankly, I don't think much of this charge, but it seems that you do. So cite the countering evidence.

” Rep.J.D. Hayworth the largest single recipient of Abramoff related money and co-chairman of the Congressional Native American Caucus, has received more than $150,000 from Indian tribes once represented by Abramoff. “

Bare-faced lie.

Again, I think the "connected to Abramoff" thing is weak, but if it's a lie, it should be very easy to present the countering facts.

Fair enough. Now show me proof of any of these slanderous lies I posted above, or get lost!!

Whoa! It doesn't work that way. You can push the original poster for verifying information, but once you declare it to be a lie, the onus is on you.

No, I said true conservatism is compassionate. It can be defended on its own terms and not by twisting them. Cruelty and "omelets made of broken eggs" are hallmarks of the Stalinist Left.

I’ll fight my wars my way and I’ll be up front about it.

And when you lose?

I'm thinking about the war, to use your metaphor, not a single battle.
