Buh-Bye, Buggy Whips.
Are you saying this company is managed by the great grandson of George Amberson Minifer?
Borders in Hilo was the headline today, closing ASAP. Hilo’s only bookstore really.
There are some high-end companies closing their stores, so the lack of consumer spending is evidently affecting all levels.
I was surprised to see shutterred up stores on 57th Street in Manhattan, which is known for the highest rent per square foot in the world. Our cities are starting to look like third world inhabited ghost towns.
Always full of shoppers and a good selection, no matter what store you are in.”
You must have different buyers than we have in Houston suburb stores. Parking lot by store nearly empty most of the time and they have overpriced Chinese clothing. Used to be my favorite store but I would never shop there again.
Look for the Obama to lose the House, and maybe the Senate.
Remember in November!
Egghead saw the change coming, closed their stores, went online and called themselves "Newegg". They are doing fine.
I support local stores because they are convenient, and can be fun to visit. But they are less fun lately because of of clerk attitudes, and the Freak Show Effect and many do not have much of what I need. There is a decaying mall near me I will not visit simply because it's too dangerous, and I am Licensed to Carry.
Online I can comparison shop in minutes, can always get what I need, and some guy in a brown suit shows up with it in a few days. It's no different than waiting for the weekend to go to the mall.
The Brick and Mortar has to guess what someone is going to buy, and stock it...the same item sitting on thousands of shelves in thousands of stores, hoping someone will buy it.
When they start the sales tax on online purchases I'll still use it, because taking my time even at the Minimum Wage, it makes no sense to tie up a Saturday Morning wandering around hoping I'll find something I need at an attractive price.
There will always be a need for local B&Ms. Nobody is going to buy lumber and cinderblocks online, and we know better than to buy groceries online- that's how the stores get rid of wilted vegetables and rotten meat. (Tried it.)
I remember going to a Barnes and Noble just a few years ago and trying to find the latest Ann Coulter book. They didn't have it (!) so I went to Customer Service and asked about ordering a copy. They said that would be no problem -- they'd have it in 3-4 weeks. My jaw just dropped. I said, "Do you realize this is the number one seller on Amazon.com? And you don't have it in your store? And I can get it from Amazon in two days? But from you I can get it 3 to 4 weeks? How are you people planning to stay in business?"
I think B&N has probably wised up a little, but brick and mortar stores face serious competition from online stores.
People are starting to discover that they really don’t need a lot of the services/crap that these businesses offer...
Copy-n-paste this list as a rebuttal to any lefty voter still clinging to Obamanomics who might offer up this or that tortured statistic to prove a ‘recovery’ exists.
THIS is real-world economic activity. THESE are real jobs, real estate transactions and commerce. Except now they’re not.
In my view Blockbuster killed themselves with their near-monopoly and resulting arrogance that somehow filtered down to the lowliest store worker.
Hmmmm....you were a GOOD customer!
A lot of these closures come as no surprise, many of the retailers were space holders in malls. I never saw many shoppers, even during the good days.
That's the way with leftist "intellectuals"... not to worry - the MSM has a pass for him... this kind of gaff is never covered if it's from the mouth of a dem.
Our local Sam's was one of those 10....damn. It'd only been opened for about two years, and we loved the place.....if bored, we'd go cruise through the place and maybe snack on the food demos, then wrap it up with one of their huge hot dogs/coke combos for $1.50.
I also miss the gas station...when they shut down, they even pulled the pumps.
Welcome to a planned Democrat disaster; be sure to thank a Democrat for American poverty. Vote these terrorists out on November 2nd.
SAM'S CLUB Announced: January 11, 2010 In January, Bloomberg reported that Wal-Mart Store's Inc. said it was closing 10 "financially underperforming" Sam's Club locations in the U.S. However, the company also said it has plans to add six more stores this year. Wal-Mart operated 605 Sam's Club stores as of Oct. 31, 2009.
DOLLAR STORE Announced: May 8, 2010 A 37-store network of Dollar Store outlets in Washington and Oregon announced they will be closing, just weeks after the parent company filed for bankruptcy in late March.
I got tired of going there and waiting in line while the cashier did a price check.
