I think the best rule of thumb is "Do you think voting for this person will move the country in the right direction?"

For example, let's postulate that America's regulatory/tax/judicial system is 70% leftist as of today. And let's also postulate that the Rats want to move it to 99%.

Given the choice of three GOP candidates:

Candidate JMc will compromise by moving the system to "only" 75% leftist, and is easily electable

Candidate MD will move the country back to 67% leftist, and is electable with some work

Candidate AK will move the country back to 0% leftist, but is completely unelectable

---I vote for Candidate MD in the primary every time.

“I doubt her chances, given ACORN operations,”

Keep this point in mind. Considering the 0 response to the obvious voter intimidation in Philly where charges were filed and dropped, ACORN can cause a false vote for -D’s and NOTHING will happen,

I expect -D’s to gain seats!

-—I vote for Candidate MD in the primary every time.

I'm not talking about the primaries.(by the time the primaries got to my state it was either McQueeg or Mittens....or no choice at all)

I'm talking about the general election...by then the only candidate that wasn't a card carrying Marxist/Stalinist, lost, for a large part because certain conservatives stayed home in order to cut of their group nose to spite their collective faces...

The mistake I often see here on FR is to assume:

Consensus of Freeper Opinion = Consensus of Center-to-Right Opinion in America at Large

There are millions of Americans out there who have no problem at all with a Romney or Huckabee.

If such a candidate wins the nomination (helped by the front-loaded GOP primary system with crossover voting in purple states)

... all of FR will be looking at itself a la Pauline Kael's apocryphal 1972 comment about Nixon...."How could Romney have won the nomination? Nobody I knew voted for him!!"

I would love to hear a news person address her as ‘ma’am’ or ‘former Senator’.

first of all who is MD???

now about the primary system.

it looks like it needs a major overhaul.

I had no choice of people like Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson when the primary season hit NY State...they were gone by that time...even NYs own RINO Rudy was not available by the time we got our primary....

first off we need all primaries on the same day...like the general election. next...eliminate those archaeic Caucuses (cauci?) and last as you put so well, the whole purple state thing where anyone can vote in a primary even if you are not registered with the party being voted on.

the problem with changing any of these things is the states rights issues....so I do not see these changing any time soon.

In the primaries, vote for the very best candidate. In the general, vote against the very worst candidate.

Seems to me the choice is pretty clear in November.

That would be Mitch Daniels. And if you, unlike me, think he would take America further down the socialist path, go ahead and fire away....

In the primaries, vote for the very best candidate.

Since you have been on FR a lot longer than I, you are well aware that there are -enormous- differences of opinion on who that "best" candidate is.

Not to mention the question posted above, what happens when my primary comes around and only McCain and Romney are left in the race?

Mitch Daniels?..... I googled 2008 republican candidates and did not get that name.

I didnt know who he was till I googled his name....

he is not on the radar at this time except amongst a small minority

sounds like he needs some exposure...which was the whole Duncan Hunter problem.

although I heard of him, nobody, but nobody I new personally knew who he was....but everyone knew who Fred Dalton Thompson was.

so there is a Ronald Reagan name recognition thing that is important to getting people elected .....I am thinking that was the reason that Hillary and the Messiah were the dem, candidates....zer0bama having been lauded by the media ever since he gave the keynote address at the Dhimmicrat Convention back in 2004 fixed him in the American consciousness....

I am not saying it is right...just saying it is what it is.

Here’s a great video of a Boxer book signing protest last summer. The best part is the end when Boxer sneaks out the back door and is greeted by protesters shouting “No, ma’am, no, ma’am.”
