Spain beats Netherlands 1-0 to win the World Cup. Spain's Cesc Fabregas puts Iniesta through in the box and his low shot beats Netherlands goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg for the game's only goal.

I think attitudes would be different if the USA had awesome world cup players. I am NOT a soccer fan, though all my kids played soccer to keep them active in the summertime, BUT if the US had a world team you bet your peeps that I would be rooting for them!!!

The world cup in the US still holds the record for highest attendance, and that was in fewer games than they play now. And oh yeah, what’s the most popular sport in Cuba, by the way? I know it ain’t soccer. Now go away, dweeb the adults are talking.

I saw a lot of Spanish players falling down in agony after their shirt was touched, I am a little turned off by a sport where your team totally gains an advantage by acting like a pussies.

IMO, the cleat in the chest early in the game should have been a red card. Ugly foul.

I guess there's something wrong with me. I thought it was another great game. Both sides, but Spain especially, had lots of chances. I thought Spain's passing was great. The way some of those guys receive long balls is just amazing.

The ref sucked. If I was there there wouldn't have been more than 19 players on the field at the end of the game. I mean the guy who just blasted Alfonso (?) with a full boot to the breastbone. Wow! If that wasn't a red card nothing is.

Two years to Euro 2012.

I thought this was a great game between two very tough teams. No, it wasn't pretty but neither is a 3-0 American football game between two defensive powerhouses.

This was a slugfest and the outcome was in doubt up until the last minute which is what makes the game so much fun.
