Schumer pens open letter to Steve Jobs Posted: July 15th, 2010 12:58 PM ET

From CNN's Jeff Simon

(CNN) - New York Sen. Charles Schumer on Thursday called Apple's suggestions for remedying a widespread issue with the iPhone 4 "insufficient" and urged the company to come clean about a problem that has many iPhone 4 customers up in arms. Schumer made the comment in an open letter written to Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

"I ask that Apple provide iPhone 4 customers with a clearly written explanation of the cause of the reception problem and make a public commitment to remedy it free-of-charge," Schumer writes in the letter, obtained by CNN. "The solutions offered to date by Apple for dealing with the so-called 'death grip' malfunction – such as holding the device differently, or buying a cover for it – seem to be insufficient."

"While I commend Apple's innovative approach to mobile technology and appreciate its service to millions of iPhone users nationwide, I believe it is incumbent upon Apple to address this flaw in a transparent manner," Schumer wrote.

Why does Schumer find it his place to even send a letter to Jobs? The world has gone completely mad!

Nice set of priorities, Chuckie. It’s always about you and your empowerment/publicity whoring. Grow up.

Jobs should write an open letter back comparing the customer satisfaction ratings of the iPhone with those of the Senate.

Someday in the near future I bet the iPhone won't drop calls. The Senate will still be paving the way to this nation's destruction.

Nice reference. That book was the first thing I thought of when I read this. What was the name of the politician that died in the railway tunnel?

This is nothing but criminal extortion under cover of official office by Schumer. In sane times such an action by a officeholder would result in his removal from office, if not criminal counts for soliciting bribes.

Schumer wouldn’t be able to make a crystal set work.

As a liberal, he’s in the best position he can get - a position which requires no intellectual ability.

Leave the tech stuff to us - who actually passed some science classes.

Go back to law and public service - where obviously anyone can qualify.

I wish Schumer would write a letter to Sears Optical on my behalf. I’ve had to return the same pair of glasses three times already to have the lenses replaced.

Doesn’t Chas have better things to do, like ram the Disclose Act through so everyone but the left is denied free speech rights?

Is there a bigger publicity hound than Chucky Schumer? I’m surprised he hasn’t weighed in on Lindsey Lohan.

Sen. Schumer, your response to unemployment and the deficit is insufficient. I would request that you come clean and offer a more comprehensive solution to the problem.
