A former bus driver has sued the Capital Area Rural Transportation System, charging that the nine-county transit service discriminated against him based on his religion when he was fired for refusing to drive a woman to a Planned Parenthood clinic in January.

Never knew bus drivers know where people are going once they leave the stop.
I’m glad he feels so strongly. However, if the bus line allowed all the drivers to pick and choose where they drove based on political beliefs, they’d also have to allow drivers to pick and choose based on convenience, religous beliefs and the weather.
I know I may be going against the grain here, but this claim is a little attenuated to me. His job is to drive a bus where he is told to drive. He probably drives people who do a lot of things that are against his morals—people probably get off the bus in areas to buy drugs. This isn’t like they told him to assist in performing an abortion—like a nurse or doctor.
A bus driver attempting to decide whether a rider deserves to go where she wants? He deserved to be fired. If his conscience couldn’t take it, he needed to find another job.
That would be a tough call. He’s an employee of a bus line. That would almost be like a Christian getting a job as a cashier for Walmart and then refusing to check out somebody who wanted to buy beer.
Do. Your. Job.
The driver was brave enough to stand up for his beliefs. This lawsuit smacks of whining after the fact.
LOL! You’re not against the grain so far.
I am pro life, however, the bus driver is wrong in this situation. His job is to drive the bus in a timely and safe manner, period.
New headline: Bus drive claims not doing job led to his firing.

Um... I know several Christians who drink beer.
IIRC, that happened recently with Muslims.
At the checkout counter and cabbies in NYC not driving people with liquor in their possession.
You're pretty good. I figured it would be several more posts before someone trotted out a Nazi analogy.
Let me know how this all works out for you when a Muslim refuses to sell you alcohol or pork. Or when a leftie at a book store won't let you purchase a conservative book.
It is likely that the woman was going to Planned Parenthood to get her birth control devices or for a medical check-up. However, that is not the point and the bus driver failed to do his job and should have been fired.
I’m surprised. I guess employer rights outweigh abortion at Freerepublic.
Yes - that radical position that employers expect employees to do the very job they were hired & paid to do.
Don't be difficult. You get the point, viz. when does an employee have the right to refuse to serve the employer yet keep his job?
