I’ll be optimistic for both of us. McCain is old (he should have *wanted* to retire, to enjoy his grandkids, etc.) and has probably been over-prepped. (It takes a lot of practice to remember that you’re on the opposite side of every issue you’ve championed for the past decade or more.) He’s up in the polls, so he’ll probably try the prevent defense, and play it as safe as he can.
J.D. is behind, if the polls are to be believed, and so has nothing to lose. He knows McCain’s temper, and he’s memorized every single flip flop. He’s going to be pushing buttons left and right, and going for broke. If McCain doesn’t end up tripping all over himself and/or throwing the mother of all hissy fits it won’t be J.D.’s fault.
