I don't know if it is related but there is strange lightning and thunder.

I woke up last night and saw really bright lightning flashes but the thunder was a long time in coming.

So I opened the window blind and saw the lightning was striking high across the sky overhead instead of coming down and then the thunder took a while to be heard but was roaring for a long time.

I told my wife “that is Weird” but she was sleeping like a log as usual.

Now it has started again and I saw it shoot across the sky with the same type of thunder.

You wife has it right. You should roll over and go back to sleep. Much lightning is between clouds: it is nothing unusual. In fact, it is nice that it doesn’t all strike the ground.
Have a good sleep!

Saw the same type of lightening years ago in the Grand Canyon. Spectacular!!! Like fingers reaching out across the desert. No rain up on the rim, but it poured down in the canyon and made for some excellent white water rafting the first day out!!!

When I was a kid we called it “heat lightning” - frequent discharges between the clouds that produced an occasional and delayed low rumble. Usually happened during the hottest nights of the year.
