Buck regrets disparaging Tea Partiers (CO Senate)
Politico ^ | 07/25/10 | David Cantanese

Insurgent Colorado Senate candidate Ken Buck is apologizing for a degrading remark he made about the Tea Party movement last month that was caught on tape by a Democratic tracker.

The Denver Post and 9News is expected to report Sunday night that Buck referred to the members of the Tea Party as "dumbasses" after a campaign event in Crowley, Colo. last month.

"Will you tell those dumbasses at the Tea Party to stop asking about birth certificates? Woah, I'm on camera. God, what am I supposed to do?," Buck says on the tape, according to his campaign.

Buck campaign spokesman Owen Loftus told POLITICO that the candidate spent Sunday explaining and apologizing for the remark in interviews with the state's two dominant news outlets.

"Ken points out he does gets frustrated at times with those individuals pushing those issues. He shouldn't have cussed. He regrets the remark. He was venting his frustration to a Democratic tracker and he shouldn't of," said Loftus.

Loftus said that Buck, whose candidacy has been fueled in part by Tea Party members uninspired by one-time GOP frontrunner Jane Norton, was aware he was speaking to a Democratic tracker and simply made a mistake. The birther issue has been a tricky one for Buck to navigate: While he signaled he would support legislation to ensure a presidential candidate has U.S. citizenship at a meet-and-greet in June, he has also stressed it is not a priority for his campaign.

This guy is a Princeton educated lawyer and career prosecutor. I like him; I think he’d make a good candidate. But the idea he is some kind of a Mr. Smith populist outsider charging the gates of the establishment is absurd.

I think we may be headed toward race riots if Obama and his DOJ are NOT stopped.

(There is a lot of ill will today. I can’t believe what I’m hearing coming out of my husband’s mouth. And he’s usually on an even keel.)

This guy has done more to damage race relations than anybody I can think of.

(Agreed.)

But I don’t think it’s necessarily fear of race riots that makes the judges fearful of this.

I think it may be that Soros and the Islamists have joined together to make the electronic run on the bank and hold the entire world economy hostage - the Islamists in order to institute sharia-compliant finance and thereby force the entire world to be subject to sharia in order to buy and sell (a stealth way to get rid of infidels), and Soros to undo capitalism.

I believe that at the secret meetings between Congress, Bernanke, Paulson, Bush, etc, it was made clear that there was an ultimatum: bail out the banks and elect Obama or else there will be another run and world capitalism will fall.

Bush at that time was saying that if they didn’t do the bank bailouts it would be the end of the Western world.

I believe he said that at gunpoint, basically.

(I don’t know. I think we should stick to the facts, not speculation. Pure speculation on my part — some fears are founded, some unfounded. But I am looking forward to hearing more from you on Obama BC # Is that still a go or having second thoughts?)

I believe it is the beast out of the sea and the beast out of the land - corrupt government and corrupt religion working together to serve Satan.

If it’s the time when God allows them to have the authority to do this, I expect things to get very bad very soon.

(Some have said this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. There’s a lot of disinformation out there.)

Race riots would be nothing compared to what we’ll face.

(Again, I just don’t know. Obama could go a long way in turning down the heat on this pressure cooker. If he ever decides to be everyone’s president.)

(We do know Obama is hiding “something.” But we don’t know for sure if that “something” would make him ineligible.)

What Buck said was the truth, and he shouldn't have apologized. Some of the people in the Tea Party are making an ass out of the movement by worrying about Zero's birth certificate.

Fightin' words, FRiend. Obama has credential and credibility problems going out the wazoo, and you're going to give him a pass on that stuff he's got 9000 lawyers sitting on? Never! Blast that sucker open, let's see what's in the vault! SUE!

That ought to be at the center of the GOP platform. I smell a ringer -- the Dems have had the American People in so many ways with this Red-diaper assclown, we need to take him apart like a Tinkertoy.

Prove he's a ringer, and you destroy the Democratic Party forever.

Well....Butterdezillion is right. How a person responds to the Obama eligibility issue reflects their true character, their commitment to truth and the rule of law.

I could have saved myself a couple billion electrons by just bumping your post.

Well said, FRiend. BTTT.

But then I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of reading your post.

They think we’re going to cower from this issue. Let’s turn the tables on them. We know how big this story is - how much corruption and crime is involved at all levels of government, media, and law enforcement in order for this to happen - and they are crazy if they think they can ride this tiger.

The people have seen the lawlessness. With Underwear Bombers at our behinds and the AQ-inspired druglord beheaders at our throats down in Arizona and the feds tying our hands.... most red-blooded Americans see what’s going on and where it all ends.

As a group Americans may be stupid enough to agree to something that could kill us, but as a group we are not suicidal.

Because somewhere down the line I think Nancy may regret signing this piece of paper.

And Mzzzzzz Shalifa Williamson may have to answer some awkward and dangerous questions about her having notarized it.

Alice Travis Germond is the second wife of journalist Jack Germond.

Thanks, I'd wondered .... of course, Germond always played it right up the middle on the talking-head shows, never had to worry about Jack ... <urp!> ....

I hope Palin doesn’t endorse Norton. I think if she does she’ll start to be seen as just endorsing every woman out there. I don’t know if it’s a good idea for her to be seen as playing identity politics. It would be helpful for her to endorse some men as well, and I know she has. I just don’t think it’s a good impression if people start to think that she’s just endorsing women because they’re women. Irnically enough the one woman she hasn’t endorsed is Lisa Murkowski in AK, although I think that’s more personal. Palin also endorsed then Lt Gov Parnell against Don Young, the same anti-establishment type thing. And I believe that Frank Murkowski sort of screwed her over for a Lt Gov post and then picked Lisa over her for the Senate so there nay be some bad blood there.

OTOH, she’s already endorsed most of the other women out there so people could start to wonder “why hasn’t she endorsed Norton? What’s so wrong with her that she’s the one woman Palin won’t endorse?”, so who knows?

It may not matter either way, although if a Palin endorsement propels Norton to the nomination and she wins in the fall, I’d think she’d be more likely to potentially support Palin for President.

the best approach may be to hope Norton wins without her endorsement and then endorse her for the general.

You are entitled to your opinion however lacking it may be, but as for me QUESTION AUTHORITY and attack on all fronts when being attacked. You can play defense and catch-up. I want the truth no matter where it falls. Stop dictators by any means available and necessary. We are down to the courts and the ballot box and if Obama and the Commies have their way they will rig them both.

This gaffe comes on the "heels" of his "heel" remark.

Now that was dumb.

You guys are right. I'm licking my wounds here.

I support the BC movement. I erroneously thought that it would be better to focus on big government and stopping the Obama agenda rather than going straight for the jugular. The BC issue is not a pertinent issue from the Tea Party movement perspective - it is about low taxes and limiting government. But the responses here proved me wrong - in these times now it's important to go for the jugular.

Jane was anointed by Juan McAmnesty.

And you say she is not a RINO ???

Buck seems to have hoof in mouth disease.

Yes, I say that. Being endorsed in a primary by John McCain doesn't make someone a RINO.

You need to clean up Illinois
and not worry about Colorado.

In Colorado she is a RINO.

I suppose I could make a good case that the McCain-endorsed candidate in Illinois' 2002 U.S. Senate primary (Jim Durkin, who got my vote in the primary) was the most mainstream conservative of the three candidates. Oberweis was running as a pro-choice moderate at the time and only had conservative planks on gun rights and taxes, and "true conservative" John Cox (who seems to have gone off the deep end lately and runs for every office on the planet) came off a flake who told people what they wanted to hear, but let it slip that he was against the death penalty even for mass-murdering terrorists.

I agree it's silly to assume so-and-so is automatically a RINO on the basis that John McCain endorsed them in a primary. A McCain endorsement is often a warning sign, though.

Listen Mack, I’ll give my opinion on any race I damn well please. This is a discussion forum. If you only want to hear from Colorado people then stick to reading your state forum. Every US Senator has power over the entire country. I don’t need Colorado electing a rat Senator to raise my taxes because you are falsely painting Norton as a “RINO”. She would be no worse than the average Republican Senator.

Disagree with me all you want but save the lame “shut up you out of stater” arguments.

Or at least be consistent and also tell people that agree with you that Norton is a RINO to shut up unless they are from Colorado.
