I am a little confused. How is a legal immigrant going prove their legal status if not for papers? How is an illegal alien going to be determined if no papers can be asked for? Seems rediculous, but that is probably the judges desired outcome to begin with.
A Driver License or State issued I.D. would suffice under the proposed law.
What about us native-born citizens ? WE will still be required to produce our ID's, of course.
.
federal law REQUIRES them to carry their legal status papers. The ONLY nation not so required is Canada.
So they should be able to be asked under federal law.
I’m confused. What papers do any of us have on us, other than our drivers license?
The Feds require papers. Can the state ask for the “Federal” papers?
Real issue is: how does the cop know the person is an immigrant (legal or not)? Citizens are not required to produce papers (not showing a drivers license is just a small matter of producing it later).
Contrary to many on FR, methinks this is the correct ruling. NOBODY should be subject to “papieren, bitte” (if you don’t understand that reference you have no business having an opinion on the topic).
This returns me to the opinion that the Right is fighting the wrong battle: the problem isn’t illegal immigration (that’s just the symptom), it’s the whole damned welfare state coupled with minimum wage and other regulations which make legal employment stupid expensive; the socialist system’s problems cannot stop supply-and-demand. End welfare, minimum wage, and overbearing regulations and the black-market demand for illegal immigrants will disappear along with the other freebies given thereto. They won’t come if there is no benefit in doing so.
