“No I bash them because their OS has more security holes than a colander.”

Misconception, a properly patch XP or Win 7 box is actually a very secure computer.

XP SP3 is great is no longer within the mainstream support cycle and is now getting reduced "Extended" support from Microsoft. Haven't worked with 7 that much so can't comment on that. I note you left out that other OS, I think it was called VISTA.

I have two Vista laptops and they are absolute pigs so far as stability and memory management are concerned. I still run XP on my office computer but the wife and kids got vista because the new laptops came with it and Sony didn't provide a full set of XP compatible drivers. I'll either upgrade to 7 or more likely just scrap the laptops and replace hardware and software as they get older.

I will admit that my crusade against Vista is personal. When working with the Vista computers I feel like i'm fighting the OS every time I want to do anything. And the ancient Pentium II running Xandros Linux that i use as a file server still can load web pages at twice the speed of the 3.5 ghz laptops running vista. May not be the easiest OS to load new software on (Although Xandros does provide installers for a lot of applications), but it is fast as heck.

That’s the problem. Those computers are no more secure than the users that use them. I did some consulting work for a business whose computers were acting slow and “funny”. Every computer there ran Windows XP but nothing had been kept up to date, including the antivirus programs. Every last one of them had multiple viruses, spyware and adware. Most Windows users are not technical and are not mindful enough of security and what I found is probably very typical outside of corporations with active IT departments.
