OAS Commission recommends eliminating lawsuits against Zelaya The report on the situation in Honduras was delivered to the Permanent Council yesterday by the OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza.
The High Level Commission of the Organization of American States (OAS) in its report on the situation of Honduras, the government of Porfirio Lobo Sosa remove legal proceedings instituted against former President Manuel Zelaya.
"The Commission considers it appropriate to end lawsuits over the de facto regime against former President Zelaya and his associates, under the laws of Honduras," said the document prepared by the OAS Permanent Representatives of Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and the Dominican Republic and who had access to The Herald.
In the opinion of the members of the committee action against Zelaya were "politically motivated" and that "although the two processes that are pending (after application of the amnesty decree) against the former President Zelaya correspond to events occurring much before the coup, these processes and the action of the Attorney recently were formalized after the former President Zelaya was ousted from his duties as president "of Honduras.
Zelaya was accused by the prosecution for crimes such as abuse of authority and elites against the Constitution, which would be cleared to qualify under the amnesty granted by Lobo, however, also faces charges related to corruption, whose rejection would entail a violation Article 17 of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption, which is in force in Honduras.
Likewise, diplomats recommended that the former president "ask the Board of Parlacen (Central American Parliament) its incorporation into the body."
The document highlights "the steady progress in the investigations to clarify the murder of several people, including journalists and defenders of human rights" during the political crisis and the mandate of Lobo.
Furthermore, "the Commission considers that the work of the Commission of Truth and Reconciliation should have the full support and collaboration of all sectors of Honduran society to determine what happened on June 28, 2009.
That report was delivered yesterday, 29 July, the OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza, to the President of the Permanent Council, the Ecuadorian María Isabel Salvador Crespo.
When drafting the document, the High Level Commission met with the president of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo, Secretary of Planning and Cooperation, Arturo Corrales, former Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports during the administration Zelaya, Rodolfo Pastor, the Human rights minister, Ana Pineda, and HH DD special prosecutor Sandra Ponce.
I call BS. Who is the OAS to tell Honduras or anyone in Honduras they can’t go after Mel for all the stuff he did? He is lucky to be alive. I hope Lobo tells them to pound sand.
So, according to the OAS, the democratic government of the Republic of Honduras elected by a majority of its people in order to save its Constitution from being gutted by a Marxist takeover is a “de facto regime.” What a bunch of idiots. Comrade Obama must be thrilled.
