PHOENIX (AP) — A sheriff in Arizona known for his anti-immigration policies says his office is investigating a report of a $1 million bounty on his head.

A spokeswoman for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the report was relayed by the FBI and by a caller who told Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV in Phoenix that the threat was from a Mexican drug cartel. Phoenix is the seat of Maricopa County.

Lisa Allen says it wasn't known whether the threat actually came from a drug cartel but authorities believe it was made using a disposable cell phone in Mexico.

I doubt the threat is authentic because the cartels know that any violence north of the border will result is a real clampdown on their business.

I believe this threat. Mexico is frustrated because Americans want to seal the border and deport illegals. They are clearly on the losing side of the issue here, and they know it.

For all practical purposes, Mexico has never been a friend of the U.S. Our relationship with them can be compared to Russia.

I'm leaning that way as well, but simply don't know. Recent stories coming out south of the border is the cartel's are in bed with "terrorist" types (I forget which raghead org...). Car bomb's are big time in play down there right now alsong with stepped up grenade use. I could have sworn I read a story here on FR about IED's too.

Maybe its time to hire some Soldier of Fortune types to take out the head drug honchos. Mount their heads on spikes around Mexico.

Or we could just send a nuke their way...

Sad thing about this is fellow US citizens (liberals) are not bothered by criminal, invading, mexican drug lords threatening one of our law enforcement sheriffs one bit.

Makes me sick.

Can’t Governor Brewer activate the AZ National Guard? I mean isn’t the governor in control of AZ troops? Just deploy them if she’s got the ability. Let them back up Arpaio and the border with shoot to kill orders, and to wage war against any organized crime elements crossing over. Just start taking them out.

Threats and promises of bounties are a dime a dozen on the SW border against LE.

If the Cartels really wanted Arpaio dead they would send one of their own assassins, instead of advertising their intentions so Arpaio can take counter measures.

IMO the threat came from some unhinged Democrat libtard.

gee... I wonder if the Feds are going to help............the cartel or Arizona law enforcement?

I'd be wary to accept any federal protection, but if something like that did happen, Arizona law enforcement should shut the border down tight. Lights, patrols and anybody hiring an illegal should have their business license revoked, civil damages paid to the state and all equipment confiscated and sold in order to pay hospital, education and the families of those who are raped, murdered and maimed by the illegals that "our beloved" government refuses to turn away.

Unless something happens to a "chosen one" or their families, well then, we all just have to suck it up.

Not the head-spike, but, I was mentioning to a guy at work last week why this hasn't been, shall we say, formulated among necessary parties.
I seriously think that the arrogance that comes from the evil that controls these drug lords will make them cross the line - One Time Too Many.

Many of our marxist and pro communist groups in America are looking at violent groups worldwide for models to follow.

The Kasama project is watching the sect of revolutionaries in Greece. Assasination is a growing phenomenon in Greece and the Kasama project is operating on our college campuses and in many cases showing up to protest along with the SEIU and SDS.

My thoughts exactly. We live in southern AZ, not far from the border. We already attempt to stop and hold for border patrol pick-up any illegals crossing the ranch. It usually takes the bp about an hour to get to our semi-remote location. And we do indeed not leave the house without being armed, usually with pistol and rifle (or 12 gauge) both.

“Our relationship with them can be compared to Russia.”

Hardly, Russia has been an American Ally in war, US and Russian Troops have fought beside one another.

The Soviets were a worthy opponent in the Cold War. The Russian people are part of Western Civilization..Russians are Educated and quite capable of great feats of engineering. The Russians are much closer and have far greater similarities in values with American people than Mexico and Mexicans have ever had.

With Obama in charge and the federal judiciary in his pocket it is quite the opposite. They can pretty much do what they want with impunity. The reversal of the key parts of the new Arizona law proved that. As have the protests with illegals flying the Mexican flag and daring police to arrest them. Obama and his ilk (McCain included) have emasculated the American borders and justice system.

Stopping the drug cartels is impossible, unless drug prohibition is eliminated. They make millions off a product that is in high demand in this country. Whenever there is a demand for something, someone will try to fill the supply.

Unless you have a great idea on how to defeat this basic principle of economics, which is why I asked.
