The (R)Ad Council and Progressives
The American Thinker ^ | 3 August 2010 | John Peeples

Public Service Announcements (PSAs) have been around for a long time as a product of governmental mandate -- a price traditional media pay for the use of broadcast bandwidth. PSAs are messages for the common good, at least in theory.

PSAs are so pervasive that we scarcely notice them; they are like the persistent, oft-repeated criticisms and directives of our spouses that we tune out at regular intervals.

But just as with our spouses' admonishments, we can not ignore PSAs completely. They seep into our subconscious, and we absorb the droning messages.

Didn't someone named Huxley or Orwell write a book about this?

Most PSAs are an amalgam of mildly disturbing images and sonorous, yet urgent voices that conclude with a reassuring statement that the preceding message was "presented by ABC Agency, XYZ Agency, and the Ad Council."

I always thought it would be a neat idea to counter some of these inane PSAs I often see at work, since anymore that's the only place where I actually watch TV. I'm much more nuts and bolts and less artistic and creative, but conservatism needs to be constantly articulated as people need to persistently overcome their public educations.

I counter them with the dvr and subscriptions to Sirius Radio, Rush, Sean, and Glenn. I live in a propaganda free zone. At least until I stand in line at the grocery store and read the magazine covers.

I don’t about that. It seems to cultivate contempt in my world.

I think they’re directed at women. Women worry about all those things.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this PSA, but though I have trying to find a copy of it, I have not been successful and it is driving me nuts for its blatant dishonesty--as are many of the (mostly leftist) PSA's.

And this one is about BBQ GRILLS LEADING TO FIRES AND CAUSING SOME 10,000 DEATHS ANNUALLY

I can not imagine how anyone could produce such a misleading Ad, knowing that is beyond ludicrous and sadly and frustratingly, it runs all the time.

You obviously do not understand the logic of the Left. At least 10,000 people die every year who, at some point in their lives, ate something that was cooked on a barbecue grill. Therefore, the grills caused their deaths. And if you challenge them on this sort of silliness, they usually come back with a “prove it’s not so” sort of argument. Idiots. I used to think that Liberalism was a mental disease; I now understand it to be a social disease.

Ironically, the most beautiful commercial I've ever seen was a PSA......and as an insult to the efforts of the Ad Council, it was the Embrace Life PSA made on a small budget in England.

I can see that being the case.
