AN Australian woman has made American magazine history - and sparked a storm of protest - by becoming the first white fashion director of iconic black lifestyle publication Essence. The hiring of Elliana Placas in the role - after a 40-year history of having an African American as fashion director - has been met with a vicious reaction from both readers and industry identities.
Essence, dubbed the ultimate fashion and lifestyle magazine for black women, has been slammed for the decision, with the magazine's former fashion editor, Michaela Angela Davis, launching an attack against Ms Placas' hiring.
"It is with a heavy, heavy, heart I have learned that Essence magazine has engaged a white fashion director," Ms Davis wrote.

Bingo. In the states, racism is a one-way street. What is good for the goose is not allowed for the gander.
How can you have a Black magazine which isn’t by definition racist? Instad of Essence, imagine Vogue or Elle stating Naomi Cambell couldn’t appear on the cover. The world is insane.
It’s totally a racist reaction but I LOL’d at the article, I find the reaction amusing and hypocritical at the same time. Can you imagine the reaction of a magazine exclusively for whites?
The politically correct response is that ‘African Americans cannot be racists’
But the ‘Country Class’ says this is pure racism through and through.
Michaela Angela Davis? Guess who she was probably named after, Angela Davis, the Communist Party USA leader and once tried/acquitted as an accessory before the fact to murder. Her shotgun was used by a prisoner to kill a judge (blew his head off). It just walked off by itself to end up in the hands of the brother of her lover, George Jackson, a real piece of criminal/marxist work.

In the early days of integration, the situation was reversed with whites opposed to inter racial dating and marriage. The new generation ridiculed whites who opposed inter racial dating and marriage. The situation is completely reversed now. I am a little surprised about the remarks about black women and white men. I understand that the fury is usually reserved for black men dating white women especially blonds. Black women typically complain that there are not enough black men especially educated, hard working, and non criminal black men.
Integration is now basically a one-way street. Blacks can focus on separatism without any stigma. Whites are still ridiculed for not having black friends. It is whites who want integration but blacks who want separatism. This separatism fuels a victimization attitude, a continual state that is encouraged by the racial grievance industry.
The first black person to obtain a job previously held only by whites — say, President — is historic, significant and all that.
The first white person to obtain a job previously held only by blacks — not so much.
Sadly, there are so many people of all colors in this country that ban their minds from entertaining even a fleeting recognition of the hypocrisy of it all.
One of my coworkers previously dated a black man and was constantly being verbally attacked by black coworkers at her previous job. That is not right.
That impression would be correct.
This is the magazine that publishes, for example, one columnist who expressed fury that a white woman (Angelina Jolie) was hired to portray a white woman (Cleopatra).
Racist b####. Imagine if a white ever said they had a "heavy heart" about a black being hired...for anything, under any circumstances.
Comic actually, would love to see this happen here...heh.
