Gun safety training leaves much preparedness to be desired(barf alert)

As a first step toward getting a permit to carry a concealed handgun in Virginia, I recently completed a state-approved firearms safety class. Might as well get my Roscoe and shoulder holster ready because I nailed that test.

"Let's say I'm walking alone on a street, minding my own business, got my legally concealed handgun and a lady comes out of nowhere and attacks me with a butcher knife," said Jim Reynolds, a National Rifle Association certified gun safety instructor who conducted the class. "Would I be justified in using my weapon?"

I'd almost forgotten about that particular threat -- the crazed butcher woman out of nowhere. Terminate with extreme prejudice, Jim.

"But what if she's next to a school and there are children on the playground behind her?" Reynolds added. "Is that a shot I want to take?"

Someone in the class said no, "try to disarm her instead." Another advised: "Just run away." And all I'm seeing is two classmates down -- one stabbed in the front, and the other with a knife in the back -- when all they had to do was pull their gats and smoke that dame.

Jeepers creepers, I can't wait to get my concealed gun permit.

The firearms safety class was held this past weekend as part of a gigantic gun and knife show at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. At first, I just wanted to learn more about the Virginia law that went into effect last month allowing concealed-gun permit holders to go armed into restaurants and bars as long as they don't drink.

Who, besides a trained law enforcement officer, would even want to do such a thing?

So go unarmed, you dumba$$ waste-of-skin lib.

You know, when I finally seize absolute control, there won't be any such things as "Democrat gunowners" anyway, so relax.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

A 3rd option would have been to shoot the knife out of her hand, being sure to hit between the 3rd and 4th fingers and making sure the bullet hit the knife handle firmly so as not to ricochet and hit bystanders. /s

Elementary martial arts stuff take the woman out by snapping her arm at the elbow , then kick her in the head a few times to make sure she stays down and maybe it will knock some of the crazy out of her

Obviously not funny effeminate writers. He should stay in D.C. with the rest of his kind - National Socialist Democrats. They don't tolerate no concealed carry in the District. Very safe place.

"If your weapon won't fire because two cartridges are jammed," he said, simulating the trouble with fake bullets in a chamber of his .40-caliber Glock semiautomatic, "pull the slide back, remove the magazine and . . . "

Or you could carry a revolver and just pull the trigger again.

the magazine -- the part of the gun that holds the bullets

What contempt this clown has for his readers. Can you imagine a sports reporter writing "the hoop -- the circle the players try to throw the basketball into" or a travel reporter writing "the ticket -- the document the passenger presents to show that he has paid for the trip"?

Any American Citizen that believes in the US Constitution and realizes that when seconds count to save your family or yourself the Police are minutes away!

I really have trouble respecting folks who use that kind of language. They just come across as ignorant fools.

Well, to be fair, the average liberal Washington Post reader probably doesn’t know squat about guns.

Perhaps I should really scare the willies out of this little Nancy-Boy and tell him that in my state, you can get a CCW without any training, because it is assumed to be your personal responsibility.

He's writing for the Washington comPost. Many of the readers are effete urban weaklings, like himself. He probably just learned all that, and his assumption that they don't know is probably accurate of a large percentage of the subscribers.

Well, there you go. Best to hide under the table while waiting on a trained LEO to arrive and save the day.

Oh and btw, some of those trained LEO’s if they ever do arrive aren’t too handy when it comes to those type situations.

I thought you didn’t need a permit in NH?

I like the sneering remark about the magazine falling to the floor during an attempt to clear a stove pipe jam —

“Virginia doesn’t require you to know anything about the workings of the gun you’re concealing. But Reynolds still gave us a heads-up on common firearm malfunctions and tips on how to fix them while being attacked by a crackhead with a baseball bat.

“If your weapon won’t fire because two cartridges are jammed,” he said, simulating the trouble with fake bullets in a chamber of his .40-caliber Glock semiautomatic, “pull the slide back, remove the magazine and . . . “

“Oops . . . no, I didn’t,” he whispered as the magazine — the part of the gun that holds the bullets — slipped from his fingers and fell to the floor. And as he bent down to retrieve it, I could almost hear that Louisville Slugger whistling through the air.

If a gun safety instructor with more than 12 years of law enforcement experience could mess up a gun fix during a classroom demo, you can imagine what’ll happen to a novice gunslinger when his heat misfires during a real fight.”

OK, on my P220 (which does get stovepipe jams from time to time when I a practicing with snap caps) I eject the mag, (yes it falls) rack the slide twice, and then I load a second mag from my waist.

Jam solved.

But the instructor oughtta either better explain the process or practice the jam clearing demo more often ;-)

Then I pick up the fallen mag.

These people don’t even realize how arrogant and condescending they sound. It’s damned near impossible to satirize them anymore.

Or carry a USP and not worry about jams.

You do not need a license to own a firearm in NH, but you do need a concealed carry permit for handguns, the issuance of which is contingent upon the completion of an application to your town’s Chief of Police and the payment of a small fee ($10-15) every 4-5 years. You cannot be rejected in the absence of a qualifying reason (e.g. - evidence of mental illness, a felony conviction, a restraining order).
