I recall being on a hike at Gettysburg with a group our our Boy Scouts the spring of 2009. They were already telling political jokes at Zero’s expense. Kids aren’t stupid.
My youngest was there.
That was the first thing he told us about when he got back. The scouts really didn’t like BO.
you’re right-his ego demands to be constantly adored. And besides that, they serve God and country-what could he possibly talk about/campaign about to the Boy Scouts?
The bigger the ego, the bigger the insatiable need for adoration...this isn’t the “summer of recovery” for the economy, it’s the summer of recovery for his bruised ego.
Obama likely believes the BSA are really a right wing paramilitary force. They are lightly armed but are highly skilled in acts of vandalism. I am sure the SS troops are reviewing their merit badge records because of this. Next, they will be sent to re-education camps....
Or given the choice to earn their “allah-akbar” badge...

I suspect the reason for the snub is no more complex than the fact that Obama holds contempt for all manner of things all-American. And what’s more all-American than the Boy Scouts?

Right-o. The View appearance was taped, for Pete’s sake. Coulda been taped anyday. On the campaign trail, a guy can appear in up to half a dozen venues.
This was a snub.
And the spontaneous reaction is not unlike the Tea Party sentiment.

Obama is still feeling the burn that he could not get enough support for his version of the Youth Corp.
His marxist plans of gathering the youth of America and training them to be loyal socialistic informers was exposed early after his election.

You have to send something to the White House to get a recognition. It has been true for both Bush and Obama. As a former Scoutmaster and current Eagle Scout advisor for my troop I’ve had Eagle Scouts get recognition certs from both Bush and Obama (my oldest got one from Bush White House and my youngest got one from Obama White House).
Although I understand the sentiment of the Scouts at the jamboree I wished they would have focused on the “courteous” part of their Scout Law and just remained silent.
But having said that it certainly was poor taste of Obama to send a video instead of going in person. I know there are lots of Democrats who are also in Scouting so I hope they see this as it was probably intended... a snub of Scouting.

Quick story about the Boy Scouts that I posted on another BSA thread:
About six months ago I bought a few boxes of ‘First Day Covers’ at an estate sale. I found one commemorating the Scouts 50th. Located the closest troop and sent it to them. A couple weeks later received a letter of thanks from the Scoutmaster.
Two days ago while Freeping someone drove into our driveway and I saw a young man in a Scout uniform and his mother get out of their car. Went downstairs and was greeted by their smiling faces. The young man (about 15 years old) introduced himself and handed me a First Day Cover of the 100th commemorative stamp. He had just got of a bus after an 8 hour trip from the Jamboree and hadn’t even been home yet. As tired as he was, he insisted that his mom drive up to deliver this most precious gift to me.
Damn! We need more men like this ‘kid’!

The operative fact here is that they were booing the president. Disrespect is disrespect.

I don't know all the details - I currently work in International Scouting and am not an active Scoutmaster dealing with new Eagles - but the White House took almost eighteen (18) months to give approval for President Obama's name to appear on Eagle Scout CERTIFICATES.
As a result, young men who earned the rank of Eagle Scout and young men and women who earned the rank of Quartermaster (and I assume the same holds true for Venturing's Silver Award) from President Obama's inaguration until late this spring/early summer did not have the President's signature on them because the White House wouldn't approve it.
If someone knows more details - or if I get a break on Monday and can call some contacts in Irving, Texas - perhaps I'll know the real scoop.
Not one single president since W has attended the Jamboree.
