MALIBU, Calif. -- Badly-decomposed remains found in Malibu Creek State Park have been identified as those of missing Cal State Fullerton graduate Mitrice Richardson.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca confirmed on Thursday morning that the remains are that of the 25-year-old.

They were absolutely incompetent here. They saw she was mentally unstable and let her go anyway, in the darkness of night, in an area she was not familiar with, to find her way home. I think most likely she just fell off the cliff. That area is very treacherous, I would have probably lost my balance in an area like that. The Lost Hills Sheriff’s station messed up big time. All they had to do was call a family member to pick her up, or call a mental facility to have her evaluated.

When asked why Michael Richardson was not informed, Baca grew visibly agitated and said that he himself had just found out the confirmation minutes before the news conference.Baca responded saying, "I just get informed a half an hour ago. You expect me to tell the father immediately?"

It is very suspicious, that given her mental state, they did not have her admitted to hospital on a 5150: danger to self/danger to others.
Baca was a complete jerk during the presser. I used to respect him; that seems long ago.
She was bi-polar and had a a BA Degree in Psychology...hmmmm. Never knew Malibu was so dangerous, pretty rare a black girl getting murdered in a white neighborhood. White girl getitng murdered in a black neighborhood is page 5 stuff in the local paper. Just sayin.
It is suspicious but I don’t believe some police officer at that station killed her. I think she left, was walking around and fell off the cliff. It was negligence by the police but I don’t believe anyone there murdered her.

They wouldn’t accept the credit card or the credit card was rejected, or didn’t they just didn’t accept that particular credit card company? They took her cell phone from her at the jail and didn’t give it back?
If her own parents- who knew about her mental problems- didn’t do something to help her, how are the police, who saw her one time, able to figure it out. I see street schizophrenics all the time. The cops pretty much leave them alone unless someone complains or they’re really going wacky. If they do arrest them, do you think they call their parents or relatives before they release them? Of course not- they’ve pretty much given up on them, as well. There are crazy people galore in big cities. Unless the person is an immediate danger to themselves or others, there’s not too much the cops can do except let them go.
I agree..the parents have to assume some responsibility here as well. They knew she was mentally ill and they let her walk around knowing that she was unstable. She went to the restaurant in Malibu screaming how she was there to avenge the death of Michael Jackson, this was probably not the first time she was screaming nonsense like that. This entire story is very tragic.
I think most people with undergrad (only) degrees in psych are suspect as far as their sanity.
Reading the school paper in Grad School (Molecular Biology) and in it was the account of a student from the school pulling an “Amy Fischer” on her Marine lover’s wife (Knock, Knock. Who’s there? Amy Fischer. Amy Fischer Wh...? BANG!).
I asked “For one thousand points, name this students major?”
They all laughed and said “PSYCH!”
She was.
Maybe they didn’t think she was mentally disturbed. Maybe they just thought she was just trying to get out of paying for her meal by acting crazy.
The parents are usually the ones to insist that their sweet child not be treated differently. And who wouldn't? I can understand that, but at some point...
Baca is a liberal, no-good self-serving jerk. Always has been, always will be.
Even though Baca's no good, what details are they hiding? She was arrested for defrauding an innkeeper (a misdemeanor), transported to the station, booked, and cited and released once they confirmed her ID via the "live scan" machine. Based on the facts as reported by the press (OK, that's always suspect), she didn't fit the relatively narrow criteria for HS5110, so had to be released once she was positively ID'd. (That's so no on else gets wrongfully charged with her crime...yes, that can happen.) While in custody, she had access to a telephone, but we don't know if she made use of it, or if she did who she called. Maybe that's relevant, but not really anyone's business either, other than the family. Tragic, yes. Conspiracy? Don't see it.

We have a family member with serious bipolar condition, and can do extremely well with school.
Makes a very big difference if she was on versus off her meds.
