It's certainly headed that direction. There is a significant portion of the population that while they may call themselves "Muslim", they're really not any religion at all. And, those people just want to live life in the most "western" style possible. Unfortunately, the Islamacists are really starting to win. What happened to Lebanon in the 70s, could easily happen to Turkey soon, if it isn't happening already.
I was at Incirlik Air Base in the late 80s, and then again back in 2008 and some opportunity to travel around a little. The difference was remarkable - for the worse.
Friend and her husband retired there. Beautiful area but I worry for them.
