The former mayor who helped lead the city through the tragic aftermath of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, came out in opposition of building a mosque two blocks from Ground Zero.
"This project is divisive," Rudy Giuliani said on the "Today" show this morning as he commented for the first time on the debate that has swept the nation. "This project is creating tremendous pain for people who've already made the ultimate sacrifice. All you're doing is creating more division, more anger, more hatred."
NBC's Matt Lauer reminded Giuliani of comments he made roughly 14 months after 9/11 in which he evoked freedom of religion as one of America's founding principles, and asked how Giuliani reconciles his opposition to the mosque with his espousal of the idea that "no one's going to interfere with you" because of that principle.
The one-time presidential candidate quickly acknowledged the developers have a constitutional right to build the mosque but deferred to the question, "Should they build it?"

Most people do not recognize that what happens in a mosque is sedition. Pure and simple. Islam is not just a “religion”, it is a cult. Larger than that though, it is a political system, it is it’s own government, its judicial...is in its sharia, and its military (jihadis) all rolled into one with one intent ...and that is to rule wherever they take root. It is a invasive, systemic infection looking to take over the host once it has quantum.
This is not just a “religion”, but something that cloaks itself in those terms so it should not be given the same treatment contemplated under the first amendment. The Korans Sharia rules are to consume whatever government there is wherever it goes. It is political, and it’s goal is to supplant and replace.
The sooner America learns this , the better.
Obama? Obama and Company? Should be tried for treason in this issue for promoting the establishment of a foreign government on our soils. He is doing nothing to protect America as per his oath. Also, as a Muslim, he knows this, he know far better, he knows sharia, but is looking to deceive America.

I agree. What is happening is egregious and toxic,and subversion of America and our principles. They are attempting to get us to commit suicide, step by step. Political correctness is how they win the day.
Many Americans do not know facts and history, and intentions of the Islamic mosques. Our trusting them is worse than stupid, it is suicide of our way of life. First of all, this project has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of religion, and those making that argument can be disregarded as hopelessly ignorant. Next, this project is a monument to the terrorists of 911. Radicalized Muslims have seized an opportunity to rub our noses in their hatred of the USA. The WTC represented commerce, wealth and openness. A mosque at ground zero will be symbolic proof that Islam is defeating freedom. The Muslims know it, but there are millions of stupid Americans who think acquiescing to and appeasing the people who hate us will make them love us. Last, a mosque at ground zero will be moral victory for liberals who hate conservatives and patriotic Americans who love this country. It is a statement that we wronged Islam, and this is our way of making up for it.
