SOUTHLAKE, Texas (AP) -- A Texas teenager who broke curfew is headed for a reluctant adventure in baby-sitting.
Robert Rausch placed an advertisement offering his daughter's free baby-sitting services in the community newspaper in Southlake, a wealthy suburb of Dallas-Fort Worth that is home to business leaders and professional athletes.
The advertisement names Rausch's 16-year-old-daughter and says, "Want a FREE BABYSITTER for a night out?" It explains that she is in trouble for missing her curfew and offers 30 hours of free baby-sitting.

Creative way to get your kid work.
My aunt and uncle live in Southlake. Lot of big houses there! It wasn’t as fancy when they moved there in the late 1970s.
Who would want this kid to babysit for them?
A little risky, IMO.
Hope he screens potential “clients” thoroughly.
**Who would want this kid to babysit for them?**
My thought also - and not because she broke curfew. Who would want to hire a babysitter that was being forced to do the job? Also, if anything goes wrong, the father might have a liability for forcing the kid into the situation.
The few times we hired baby sitters, it wasn't based on who offered us the lowest rate.

Y'all read the article before posting. It clearly says that the parents are screening the applicants and that the daughter has actually been enjoying the babysitting duties.
It’d probably have more of an effect if he took her away her car keys and cell phone, and took the phone, TV, computer and gaming devices out of her room for a month.
Dunno about sending a 16 YO over to a stranger’s house for an evening.
It’s like community services but more personal.
Bad idea, Dad.
Only the freaks respond to “free” ads.
My thought too. I do commend the guy for trying this out. Hopefully his kid is OK and she’ll learn from this.
Good idea. I bet there are plenty of people they know that would love free babysitting and I am sure the point will be made.
This is not the approach that I would use. I don’t see a reason to publiicly embarrass the girl. Her punishment should be between herself and her parents. If I saw an ad like this I would conclude that the father is playing to the crowd instead of expressing firm, loving discipline to his daughter. I don’t think this is a good example for his daughter to use to model her behavior.

Rausch says he wanted to discipline his daughter and help others at the same time. And it appears his daughter has already learned a lesson. She says she won’t violate curfew again or throw any more late-night parties.
Is there additional information not seen in the posted link? I’m not reading where she said she is enjoying babysitting or the dad is screening applicants.
My favorite babysitter is the one from the movie, “The Incredibles”.
I hope the guys wife watches her step. No telling what ad he might run for her.
"We wanted her to make it up with community service," Wendy Rausch said. "My husband got the idea from a situation he encountered at work that people like free labor."
To prevent a dangerous situation for Kirstin, the Rausches are screening requests from callers. By last weekend, she had already completed nearly half of the 30 hours.
Kirstin Rausch said she hasn't minded the baby-sitting duties, particularly since she has lucked into dealing with kids aged 6 to 10 rather than babies and toddlers.
I guess I'm the one that needs to read more closely.
Wiping the (non-contaminated) egg from my face now.
Is this guy just trolling for perverts? There are better ways to make your kid work for free other than advertising her services. If you don’t know enough people personally to put her to work find something else as a punishment.
Make her go clean bed pans at the local nursing home or something. Dish out food at a soup line. There are all kinds of options. This one just sounds risky to me.
