Republicans are in the midst of an insurrection. Democrats are not. This vast gulf between the situations of the two parties not some grand revolt against "the establishment" or "incumbents" explains the year's primary results, including Tuesday's jarring outcomes in Florida and Alaska.
The agitation among Republicans is not surprising, given the trauma of the final years of George W. Bush's presidency. After heavy losses in 2006 and 2008, it was natural that GOP loyalists would seek a new direction.
Liberals who saw Bush's presidency as a failed right-wing experiment thought Republicans would search for more moderate ground, much as Britain's Tories turned to the soothing leadership of David Cameron to organize their comeback.
But this expectation overlooked the exodus of moderates over the last decade, which has shifted the balance of power in Republican primaries far to the right.
As a result, the main critique of Bush in Republican ranks saw him as insufficiently conservative too inclined to support federal action on education and in expanding prescription drug assistance to the elderly, and too ready to run up the deficit.
The Outsiders
That the deficit increased primarily because of two tax cuts and two wars did not enter their calculation because acknowledging this was ideologically inconvenient. In the meantime, the election of President Obama by a demographically diverse coalition anchored among younger voters helped unleash the furies inside an older, overwhelmingly white and Southern-leaning GOP coalition.

There’s no revolt in the GOP. There is however discord in the Democrat party.
I think Dionne is a poof.
He was dreaming
Nope, he is just another liberal elitist race baiter. They are threatened even more today than yesterday. Even Dionne in on the “ruling class” train to start a race war. It’s all they have left but haven’t the foggyist that that one left the station with the Sherrod bogus scandal.
Lunatics always talk to themselves
Don't worry Dionne, the Drats are going to lose all what they gained in Congressional seats that they won over the last two election cycles with whole lot more losses.
E.G. Dionne Jr. ; there's two of them writing drivel?
I don’t think it will hurt us, but it’s kind of naive to say there’s no revolt. I live in Florida, and just saw Bill McCollum - with every major Republican state and nationwide - lose to Rick Scott, whose healthcare company was fined $1.7 billion in fraud while he was CEO.
It’s not like McCollum is a RINO. He was a true conservative who was instrumental in the Clinton impeachments. But voters for some reason want every incumbent out, even when they don’t deserve it.
The Moderate Republicans who are Democrats in drag is what is killing the GOP.
If the Gop leaders don’t grow some balls, to hell with them, vote them out, they are worthless to us anyway.
Commie propaganda alert!
I think he’s living a lie and putting it down on paper for the rest of us to laugh at.
And by incumbent, with McCollum, I meant established. He’s obvious not the incumbent governor, he’s the state’s AG and a former Congressman
However, the more deluded the hoper, the higher it has to spring.
this could absolutely happen and you can bet that the rats are already carrying this out.....silly loser pubs getting support from the rats either openly or in secret with a promise to have them come join the administration....
I do think that division in the GOP could yet result in the GOP snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. For example I think Scott is going to have a very hard time beating Alex Sink here in Fla. I plan to suck it up and go with the GOP on that race but I know a lot of Republicans who are supporting Sink.
