When I and many others were leaving the rally shortly after noon, there were still hundreds of people streaming down 23rd street from the Foggy Bottom metro to just get to the rally. So one picture does not capture the attendees. Also most folks were huddled under the trees for shade and were unseen by aerials.

i posted those exact some points just now on another thread. The denseness of the crowd will depend on when the pic was taken. Depending on when people left to get there, it took longer than expected with the hours long waits at subway stations etc. My husband had one of his best ideas ever when he suggested that my daughter and i drive to Reagan airport and park in the short term lot and take the subway from there. it was ideal, we parked literally right outside of the metro stop in the garage and even got a SEAT on the subway in. i live very close to the Vienna metro and there was a mile long line to enter the subway station to get on a train!
