Anna C. Little, NJ Cong. Dist 6, Answers Conservatism Test

Editor's Note: For being open and honest enough with voters to put her views on display, Anna C. Little, candidate for New Jersey's 6th Congressional District, has earned the "Justified Right Seal of Approval!" for taking the 2010 Conservatism Test!

1. Do you believe that a human being’s rights are granted automatically when the human being is created, or do you believe that rights are granted by the establishment of laws?

A: I believe that human beings are endowed with certain inalienable rights by our creator. Among these are the rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

2. Regardless of how it were done (by Constitutional Amendment, Referendum or Statute), would you support or oppose a change in American law regarding abortion, to make abortions illegal except in cases of rape, incest or where the life of the mother is in danger?

A: Abortion is the killing of an innocent human being. I support any law that identifies it as such. The killing of innocent human beings should be illegal.

4. Do you support or oppose the use of marijuana as a medicine if prescribed by a physician?

A: I support the freedom of physicians to prescribe medicine to patients as appropriate for the treatment of illness and related symptoms without restriction.

5. Do you support or oppose the government having the power to disallow homosexuals marrying?

A: Government must not dictate to the People what type of relationships in which they are permitted to engage.

6. Do you support or oppose the government having the power to disallow heterosexuals marrying?

7. State whether you supported or opposed the President’s recent health insurance initiative signed into law, and if you opposed it, state if you had an alternative plan and what it was.

A: I oppose the Health Care Bill recently enacted by Congress and signed into law. I propose a free market model for health care providers and insurance providers which would permit competition across state lines. I propose elimination of antitrust protections for insurance companies. I further propose encouragement of Health Care Savings Accounts, and a voucher program for government assisted health care programs which gives people freedom of choice in obtaining a doctor, a hospital, and treatment options. Free Market Competition will drive costs down and increase quality. Lastly, I support tort reform which would reduce the need for defensive medicine which drives up the cost of health care.

8. Do you believe the passage of a law requiring individuals to purchase health insurance is a power Congress has pursuant to the Commerce Clause or the General Welfare clauses in the U. S. Constitution?

A: No. The Commerce Clause of the Constitution was established to govern agreements or transactions between the United States government and foreign nations, between the United States Government and Indian nations, and between one state government and another state government. The Commerce Clause does not permit federal government to regulate commerce generally.

The General Welfare Clause of the Constitution empowers the federal government to enforce order in the United States generally. It is also known as the Police Power. The Police Power of the federal government is limited by the Constitution of the United States. The General Welfare Clause does not extend the power of the federal government to regulate the health care of the people of the United States. Freedom of Contract, Doctor Patient Privilege (a legal right created by state law), and the inalienable Rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness have all been violated by the present Health Care law.

9. New Jersey Republican Congressmen Smith, LoBiondo and Lance voted for the President’s “Cap and Trade” plan. Would you have voted the same as those Congressmen did, or would you have voted oppositely from them?

A: I would not have voted for Cap and Trade. This law is based on bad science and does nothing to improve the environment. In fact, it provides loopholes for corporations to avoid compliance with environmental protections by purchasing the credits of other corporations who have so done.

10. Do you support Israel’s plan to build housing in East Jerusalem? Do you think East Jerusalem should rightfully be under Israeli or Arab control, or the control of someone else?

A: Israel knows best how to encourage stability in the Middle East region. Israel is a democracy and our ally in the Middle East. We must support our allies. While under Israeli control Jerusalem, the Holy Land, has been accessible to people of all faiths, whether Jewish, Muslim, or Christian. Israel is the party in the ongoing Middle East conflict who most wants peace. By working in concert with Israel, our ally, the United States will promote peaceful coexistence among Jewish and Arab people. By working against Israel the United States will strengthen our enemies and cause peril to the Israeli people and American people alike.

11. Should the concept of "irreducible complexity" be taught in high school biology classes, or should it be banned from discussion?

A: Pure science should be taught without interference from the government. If "irreducible complexity" is a hypothesis that has not been disproven, it should be taught along with other such hypotheses freely without restriction.

12. What could your Democratic opponent have done differently to stop the closing of Fort Monmouth?

A: My democratic opponent should have urged the BRAC to consider the first strike target, New York City, and the vulnerability of the United States to invasion via this city. My democratic opponent should have underscored the probability of a Middle East based nuclear attack occurring in vicinity of Fort Monmouth. My democratic opponent should have advocated for keeping Form Monmouth open due to its proximity to United Nations offices in New York City. My democratic opponent should have required an reasoned explanation from the BRAC. There has been no reasonable explanation for the closing of Fort Monmouth. That is completely unacceptable and proof that our Congressional Representative has not advocated for the constituents of District 6 or New Jersey.

13. The U.S. Supreme Court will soon decide if the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms applies to the states. Do you believe that it does?

A: I believe that the 2nd Amendment applies to the States. The 2d Amendment is an individual right and cannot be restricted.

14. Do you support or oppose the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v FEC which changed the law on corporate campaign spending?

A: The People of the United States elect our representatives to government. The People of the Untied States should be permitted to contribute to campaigns for candidates freely as an expression of free speech and political support. Corporate contributions may permit special interests to influence a candidate even before being elected to office. If such influence is suspected, it should be exposed during the campaign process so voters are fully informed.

15. Did you support or oppose the passage of President Bush’s $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program and support or oppose President Obama’s $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act??

A: Bailouts increase taxes and therefore create an oppressive financial burden on individuals and employers alike. It is not a proper function of federal government to interfere with the free market competition in business or the economy. A free market economy will right itself if there is no interference by government.

16. Does America have a "wall of separation between Church and State" or a "prohibition against excessive entanglement of Church and State?"

A: The government should not encourage any one faith or religion over another. All religion should be accepted by government and appropriate displays should be encouraged in an "all inclusive" manner. The freedom of the People of the United States to practice a religion of their choosing should not be restricted.

17. Do you support or oppose Eminent Domain where the taken property will ultimately be privately developed and owned?

18. Do you support or oppose amnesty from deportation for non-citizens who illegally enter America?

19. Do you support or oppose adjusting the age limits and means testing for Social Security Benefits?

A: Social Security requires reform. It was never intended to be used in the manner it is used by government today. A structured, phased approach to reform may be necessary to protect those on a fixed income, or who are clearly not employable. I oppose any restriction that would require payment by an individual who would become unable to collect on that investment. Income redistribution is a socialist policy that I will not support.

20. Do you believe the government has the power to proscribe private discrimination. If your answer is yes, do you believe the 1st Amendment protection of Freedom of Association should be repealed?

A: The American People are both the governed and the government. The American People are free to speak and associate as they see fit. The government has not been empowered by the People to dictate limits on the 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech and Freedom of Association. Under NO circumstances should the 1st Amendment or any part thereof be repealed.

Good answers, generally. The gay marriage question was stupid, although her answer wasn't. The government is not seeking to disallow "gay" marriages. What is being attempted is to allow homosexuals access to divorce courts, and/or to give public approval to homosexuality.

Homosexuality is not a good thing, and the family court system is too crowded as it is.

Regarding eminent domain, out Founders certainly did not oppose it. There is a "Takings Clause"in the Constitution. It's just that it has been horribly abused in recent years.

Living in the district that would elect her, it's too bad she's running an invisible campaign. I know it's still early, but for cryin' out loud hold a few press interviews or something!

Pallone is entrenched in his strongholds and he isn't going to be beaten by waiting until October to start hammering him.

Anna and her army of volunteers have to date knocked on well over 25,000 doors of independents in the district in the last seven weeks. Today they march on Hazlet, NJ. Her Volunteers also have called every Republican, in each town they have focused on so far, and invited them to come out and meet Anna on Saturday mornings before the door to door campaign starts.
CNN called Anna Little asking for an interview last week. On short notice, in three days Anna’s campaign organized a door to door campaign event in Ocean Grove, NJ. With over 100 volunteers attending on a Monday morning at 10:30 AM.

I stand corrected - up until I saw her rally Saturday at the Red Oak diner, as far as I could she she WAS running an invisible campaign.

I am thrilled that finally SOMEONE is actually taking it to Pallone instead of conceding defeat. If you live in this district you're well aware of what I'm talking about. Not one candidate has run a decent campaign against him in over ten years.

I'm very happy that Anna is running early, and not waiting until October to decide to get her name out there. Maybe this will be the year we get rid of him.
