Hey, I don’t wanna hijack a thread, but since you’ve been bashing on Mac, I need to fix your comments.
Macs do cost more than most PCs. But not feature for feature. You cannot buy a comparable PC for close to Mac. Mac is actually cheaper in cash at the time of sale, and performs better, no viruses, no down time, and has a much higher resale.
Mac simply does not sell a cheap $500 plastic box that will die on you. Gateway, Dell, Sony, Acer, are DESIGNED to make cheap low end, low margin PCs.
That this GD communist was using his iPhone to commit fraud, is only evidence that “apple” works best. LOL
Hey, whatever you like, you like.
I don’t have any Macs. Too pricey, and mostly closed to tinkering.
All my desktops at home are Frankensteins, made from off-the-shelf piece parts and from cannibalizing older boxes.
You can’t Frankenstein a Mac. If you install hardware or software that’s not blessed by Apple, and therefore about twice as expensive as comparable items at Wal-Mart and Staples, you void your warranty.
I’ve got 3 desktops running various Linux distros, and 3 running XP. One of the Linux boxes serves as my gateway, proxy server, mail server, and Network Attached Storage Multi-Media server. I have one Windows XP virtual machine, and about half-a-dozen Linux VMs of various distros. We have 4 laptops, all HP, one dual-boot Ubuntu/XP, one XP-only, and two with W7.
These boxes run for years on end without problems. I think in the last 15 years, I have experienced one disk crash, one CPU failure (was pretty old), one power supply failure (also old), and one LCD screen failure, for which I was reimbursed by the retail outlet.
In the last 15 years, my Windows boxes have been infected two times that I can remember. I was able to recover both times without reformat/reinstall using Safe Mode and looking for the culprit signatures in the registry.
I use as much OpenSource software as I can find to do what I want to do. No problems.
Can’t say I’ve ever missed not having a Mac.
The only reason I even suggested it was the other poster sounded like he was running some specialized stuff that, according to people that I know and respect, Mac excels at.
MAC! Amen! Used Mac in my business since 1988.
