The Sullivan County Sheriff's Department confirms that a man confronted the student resource officer at the school today. The SRO calmed the man down until more officers arrived, at which time the man drew his gun on the SRO and he was shot by officers with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.
We will have more information on the condition of the injured man as soon as it becomes available.

According to officals with emergency dispatch in Sullivan County there has been an incident this morning at Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, Tenn.
Officials say that someone this morning confronted a student resource officer and the school is currently in lockdown after reports that shots were fired.
According to Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, all students and faculty at the school are safe.
Students who are "car-riders", according to the Sullivan County Department of Education, will be taken by bus to Carolina Pottery where parents may pick them up. Those who drive their own cars or ride the bus will be allowed to leave once school is dimissed at 10:30 a.m.

I just learned from a reliable source that this was done by a kid! That explains how he got into the school!
Not so sure about that “reliable source.” I am now hearing that it was a grown man. Mass confusion, to say the least!

What is a student resource officer? I remember principals, vice-principals, school nurses and the occasional guidance counselor, but that was it back in the dark days.
I refuse to believe these school shooting stories, everyone knows schools have been made ‘Gun Free Areas’

A resource officer is basically a police officer that is present at the school in case something like this were to happen. Thank God that Carolyn Gudger was there! Here is a link with some more info:

Hi bert! As of just a few minutes ago there were students still waiting at a nearby parking lot to be picked up and taken home. They were really shaken up by this incident!
Sounds to me like this school district needs to invest immediately in larger, higher-visibility "gun free zone" signs, and place them at more points around the perimeter of school property.
student resource officer = cop/deputy on duty at the school.........
did they ever make an announcement as to why he went to the school and confronted the principal?
So far, no motive has been determined.
