ABC: Men arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport were preparing terrorist attack

Monday, August 30th, 2010 at 9:23 pm | Monica Lawrence | By Monica Lawrence

AMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) -- Two men were arrested aboard a United Airlines flight after landing at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Monday, ABC News reported.

The network, citing Dutch public prosecutor Ernst Koelman, said the men were arrested at the request of American authorities after the flight landed in Amsterdam. ABC said the men were subsequently charged with "preparation of a terrorist attack."

The two were allowed to board the flight at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago on Sunday night despite security concerns surrounding one of them, officials told ABC News, which identified the men as Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi, of Detroit, MI, and Hezam al Murisi.

This is a very mystifying story. I read earlier today that some of these things were actually in their checked luggage, which had been checked through on a different flight. Supposedly the one who had checked the baggage onto that flight then did not board it but took a different flight to a different destination where he met the other man. It was the fact that they match up passengers and their baggage (if you’ve checked a bag, you have to board that flight, and he didn’t) that made them search the luggage.

i love it! All in all, you are probably saving money, too—or at least will, over the long run.

My only advice: If you don’t have a gun, get one and learn how to use it!

Funny, as soon as I heard this news I told my husband, I bet their names aren’t John, Ted or Frank.

"White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says the two men being held in the Netherlands because of suspicious items in their luggage were not on any terror watch lists. He told CNN that "a series of suspicious events" led to the detainment of the men.

Gibbs promised "a vigorous investigation."

“The two were allowed to board the flight at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago on Sunday night despite security concerns surrounding one of them, officials told ABC News”.

Have to stop them would be racist. Have to stop all the evil angry white men first.

That depends. At what point did they find the suspicious items in the checked bags?

So let me get this straight - Americans let them THROUGH in America despite “concerns”, then have the nerve to tell Dutch to stop them when they get to Holland/Netherlands?

Could’ve been too late!

Screwy!

“Our airport security seems to suck—big time.”

And I thought random searches of 88yo white grandmas and 9yo Korean-American kids had helped greatly.

“Why are we allowing these people in our country in the first place?”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It’s sad and it may sound incredible but they are just here to kill the people that American citizens won’t kill. That is the only reason they are here. Why does America allow this? Because we are only pale shadows of our ancestors who founded this nation, they would not believe that we could become such silly ninnies.

“al Soofi was found to be carrying $7,000 in cash”

OK, well, frankly, this probably means that none of these immediate flights were targets. Who would waste real $7k in a crash?

“These two schmucks shouldn’t have ever been allowed on an airplane and should have waterboarded right there in Birmingham.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

At some point we will need to go to “Swamp waterboarding”, this is where you strap the suspect on the back of a twelve foot alligator and turn the gator loose. You don’t get much information sometimes but you never have to waterboard the same guy twice.

Wonder if there was anyone waiting on the other end of where the baggage was headed to to pick up the baggage, so it wasn’t waiting around the airport and eventually searched?

“The two were allowed to board the flight at O’Hare International Airport”.

This story is lacking a whole bunch of details. The two men actually entered the system by boarding flights in Memphis, TN and Birmingham, AL (where I live). When they reached O'hare they both changed their flights to the same flight to Amsterdam...that's when they were flagged.

Looks like they got their stuff through TSA in both Memphis and Birmingham.
