CHICAGO — Two men, including one from Detroit, were arrested Monday morning in Amsterdam and have been charged with preparation of a terrorist attack, ABC news reported.
The report names the men as Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi, of Detroit, and Hezam al Murisi. The report does not list where Murisi is from.
Soofi first raised alarm among security officials in Birmingham, Ala., due to his “bulky clothing,” ABC News reported. Officials who searched his luggage found he was carrying $7,000 in cash, a box cutter, three large knives, a cell phone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle and three cell phones taped together.
However, Soofi and his luggage were cleared for the flight from Birmingham to Chicago after additional screening failed to indicate he was carrying explosives.
I would assume they let them go through because they wanted to see where they were going or who was going to meet them. Since I have had a tiny pen-knife with a 1 1/2” blade taken away from me, I don’t see how they could have let them through with the “large knives” unless it was a set-up to catch the people at the other end.
Unless the screener was in on it with them...
