A Month in the life of George W. Bush (News and many Photos) September 2005
georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news ^ | September 5, 2010

Posted on 09/05/2010 5:29:14 PM PDT by Kaslin

The month of September 2005 was a very busy month for President Bush after Katrina came on land at the Gulf coast and damaged the area. We see President Bush and First Lady Laura visiting New Orleans and other affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi to comfort the victims of the hurricane and bring aid
The country lost Chief Justice William Renquist who passed away on September 3, 2005
President Bush nominated Judge Roberts to become the next Chief Supreme Court Justice. On September 29th Justice Roberts was sworn in as the 20th? Supreme Court Chief Justice.
President Bush remembered 9/11 heroes at a Medal of Valor ceremony. He also met with several foreign leaders and addressed the Useless Nations
For the quote of the month I have chosen President Bush’s Remarks which he gave at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service on September 16, 2005

You'd better believe he will call her, STARWISE.

SHE may think he was kidding, but WE know he wasn't. :)

(That was my favorite part too. 40 million Kurds are thankful. That's wonderful news!)

That's just an amazing statistic, Wolfstar.

Yes, it's truly incredible. Every letter was handwritten, too. It speaks volumes about the character of the man.

Nearly all the time these days in the extreme rough-n-tumble of modern politics, people forget the human dimension. Dubya never did. Not once.

Every time I hear or read something like this..........though his handwriting thousands of letters is beyond anything I would ever dream he would do - just amazing........all I can think of is how much greater a man he is, how much better a person than any of the rummies who hate him.

Interestingly enough, GWB’s book was totally GONE from our local Smith’s today; at least as far as I could see! There were 5 or 6 copies still left early yesterday. But totally gone! I thought, “Now that’s some book!”! True, UT was definitely Pres. Bush country. It could be Pres. Palin country too some day also, though!

This passage touched me as well . . . George W Bush was an amazing Commander-in-Chief and an even more amazing human being!

You're very welcome. :)

There's so much danger in our bitter modern politics, not the least of which is that we tend to leap to conclusions about the totality of a person based only on fragments of what we see in public. The totality of GWB is that he is an extremely decent, classy, kind human being. Tough when he had to be, but warm and considerate also. He genuinely loves our troops. I'll take that any day in a C-in-C, no matter what I might think of this or that policy decision.

Interestingly enough, GWB’s book was totally GONE from our local Smith’s today...

President Bush's memoir, Decision Points, is still the #1 non-fiction book in the nation for the reporting week ending 12/19/10. It tops both The New York Times and Amazon.com non-fiction books lists for the fourth week in a row. In fact, it's still #1 overall on Amazon.

Just for contrast, Sarah Palin's book, America By Heart, opened at #2 on the NYT list last week and has fallen to #5 this week. It is #41 overall on Amazon.

I have been unable to find recent sales figures for Decision Points, but Random House had an initial print run of 1.5 million copies and raised that to 1.85 million within a week of the book's release. Now, four weeks into it's release and with Christmas buying season in full swing, the book is likely to go over 2 million in sales fairly soon. In this economy, that's amazing.

Just wanted to add for further contrast that Bill Clinton’s memoir, My Life, has sold about 2.2 million copies since its 2004 publication. GWB’s book will hit 2 million in months, not the six years it’s taken Bubba’s book. :)

I’m sure Decision Points will hit the 2M mark very soon,
and deservedly so.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pres. Bush had an interview with Hugh Hewitt today.
http://www.hughhewitt.com/blog/g/fa94cfbc-83c0-4b73-9e52-2b934282a744
Do you ever see your relationship with the American military changing?
GWB: No, because my affection and admiration for our military runs deep. And the only way I think the relationship can be affected is if I ever were to take our military for granted and be cynical about our military. And that’ll never happen. I truly don’t miss much of the presidency, and I’m a happy guy, and I enjoy my life.
But one thing I do miss is being the commander-in-chief. And I have great admiration for our troops and their families. Plus, you know, Hugh, I think over eight years of working with our military, I developed a kinship that’ll never change.”
Very enlightening. God bless and keep him and his family safe always.
It might already have, Star. I've been unable to find recent sales figures, but it's selling very well indeed. I read in a piece earlier today that it's Random House's highest selling non-fiction book many years.
As for GWB's relationship with our military. He loves them, and they love him. I just read a passage in the book tonight that talks about when he presented the Medal of Honor to the parents of a special forces soldier who died in Afghanistan (don't have the book beside me to check the precise facts), before the ceremony they gave the President a gold pair of their son's dog tags with his picture on the tags. GWB wore it under his shirt near his heart.
He will have hundreds, if not thousands, of such artifacts available to display in his Presidential Library. I hope to make a special trip to visit it one day.
Thanks for the link to the HH interview. I printed the whole thing out, to keep with my copy of Decision Points.
Hugh is an excellent interviewer and W does not need a teleprompter to answer in complete paragraphs of informative responses.
