Simple question. You think if someone in business denies a service explicity because they do not like their religion, this would hold up in court?

How is this any different?

It’s his opinion.

It’s kind of funny how this issue has turned everything upside down.

In the past, it was libs doing things which are pointless to make a point. Burn a flag, put a cross in urine, etc.

In the past, it was conservatives arguing that business should be able to do business with those whom they choose.

I’m not picking a side here, just noting the irony.

. . . afoul of laws prohibiting discrimination which are founded on the 1st Amendment.

Totally false.

I thought it was clear that I do not call myself a conservative. Can you read?

In a free country, a businessman can deny service to anyone. It is his right. What makes this hard to grasp?

Totally false.

Sorry, that doesn't count as an argument for or against anything. How about citing some cases where a provider of a service to the public is able to not provide that service, or terminate the service based on the religious views expressed by the customer. Show me one (since about 1965) where the supplier was able to argue successfully that they could deny service to the public based upon some ancillary characteristic of the transaction, or some contractual wording that they apply to only one group of customers where the effect of their action is to deny service to a group based on its religious orientation or views.

In a theoretical libertarian utopia you are entirely correct. In the world as it is today, while the businessman may have the moral right, he does not have the legal right to do so. Whether or not that is a good thing, or consistent with the principles of the founders of our country, is a separate question entirely. The settled law of our nation as of now is that business owners have numerous restrictions on the conditions under which they can deny service to anyone. And many of those specific laws have widespread support among the overwhelming majority of the population - regardless of their political orientation.

Please describe how anti-discrimination legislation can be based on the First Amendment. That’s what’s false.

Is that your view of the founding of America?

This "bozo" is the biggest thing to come down the pike since Jesus.

Placing a media whore like Jones on the same level as Jesus is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

Wait till they come for you, you'll be singing a different tune then to be sure.

If RoadRunner pulls my internet access I assure you I won't mistake it for a First Amendment issue.

They are in business to make a living. They may have been threatened with destruction of their facility unless they did so. Even absent the threat, they know that violence is a distinct possibility.

suggesting that I have would be a pitifully fantastic stretch in itself.

I'm talking ratings here. He's off the Arbitron charts. And they hate him for it.

You say he's a "media whore." I say he's a cracker that the media is whoring. He's also incredibly effective.

He's singlehandedly (and quite by accident, I trust) moved the entire debate into game-time, something that hasn't been done since the days of "Shock and Awe."

I will not be debating you on this. Just setting the record straight.

Likely it'll because you didn't pay your bill, which is not the case with this "Pastor" now is it?

"Expect more of this if Verizon succeeds in killing net neutrality"

Utter nonsense. When will statists get it through their thick skulls that so-called 'net-neutrality' is nothing more than a scam to put internet content under government regulation? What has to happen? I guess we have to lose free speech on the internet so they can finally go "Duh, I guess that net-neutrality thing really wasn't a good idea"...

This issue has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the Orwellian 'net-neutrality'. Every hosting company has terms of service. They have the right to shut down web sites that are violating those terms. The user agreed to those terms when they signed up for an account.

I'd probably have shut this guy down too. Not just because the content violates terms of service, but because the site is a magnet for DDoS and other nonsense that can affect service for other customers. At the very least, I'd tell him that to stay, he would need to pony up big bucks for equipment and management to mitigate such problems.
