Used to be 3 Months or 3000 miles. I work from home and rarely drive. I had an oil change in Jan 2009 and have only driven 2000 miles since.

Same here. Most of my miles are from long trips.

In your case, time is more important, especially if your vehicle isn't in a climate controlled environment. The heating and chilling can cause water to condense inside the motor, contaminating the oil.

The rule used to be 3 months or 3000 miles since short distance driving is very hard on an engine. The great majority of wear is done in the 1st few miles as the engine warms.
