Dick Armey, chairman of the tea party-backing FreedomWorks, got behind Rep. John Boehner's (R-OH) take-what-you-can-get talk about extending the Bush tax cuts at a breakfast with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor this morning.
Asked if Boehner made "the right move" with his suggestion that he'd vote for extending just the Bush tax cuts affecting the middle class if that's all that could reasonably pass the Democratic-controlled Congress, Armey said...

Listening to Rush today it is a tactic to counter the dimoKKKRATS and their allies in the msm. They are trying to frame the talking points. You do not want to say you are against middle class tax cuts with an election coming up. Let’s just lie low on the subject until after the election. Strategy folks, strategy.
The tax cuts expire in January. If theres a Republican Congress, it doesent come into being until afterwards. You have to take what you can and go from there. Obamadan is going to be around until Jan. ‘13, thems the sad facts.
How does one get a hold of this nincompoop? Tried FreedomWorks?
If there’s one thing I can’t stand about Dick Armey, it’s Dick Armey.
Dick and Boner
what a pair
So the strategy is to have a “big win for Barack Obama’s tax cut plan” instead??
That oughtta work out
Dick Armey, chairman of the tea party-backing FreedomWorks is not to be trusted. He is a hired whore, working for self-interests and highest bidder.
He pushed amnesty, and other RINO schemes. POX on the house of Dick Armey, a has been hack.
Yep, Boehner explained himself, just wish he would be able to explain how low tax rates expand an economy
Whoops, now you’ve done it—you’ll be a target of the ‘You’re buying the MSM’s spin!’ patrol prowling around these last couple of days.
We are in an election cycle where the American people are open to voices that oppose the sitting administration as they have never been before, so what do Republicans do?
Oh, we can work with President Obama and maybe go for tax cuts on the rich, why not?
Forget all our talk about how the rich are the ones who have the money to spend that then makes jobs for others, forget our saying Obama was going to let the Bush cuts end. Boehner’s doing the Armey, Gingrich RNC thing—which is, whatever the Washington-based media want them to do so the Republcans will be liked by the Washington-based media.
It’s not about being an obstructionist, it’s about staying away from the traps these people set, and Republicans ALWAYS step into.
How are we going to argue that we can’t raise taxes in an economic downturn because that will extend the downturn if even before we’re at the table we’re saying “Yeah, we can do that, even though I don’t WANT to...”
More mealy-mouthed crap.
It’s not about Reagan’s absolutely true statements about taking 70% instead of nothing—we’re not even AT the table and we’re already giving up things we all claim are absolute non-starters.
Whatever. Boehner was rolled like a basketball by Bob Scheiffer, and people are applauding him. He’s not a bad guy, he’s not a RINO, but you’d think after all this time in public he’d have the brains to say “Bob, I’m not going to let you characterize this as ‘Republicans blocking a tax cut for the middle class.’
Instead, he let Schieffer make THAT the question, and Boehner lost the debate before it even started. And he’s going to be our next speaker?
Elite repubic punks like armey make certain that lowly serfs like us cannot bother them.

You guys are so jaded, all but the baer as far as I can tell. He took away the dems use of “they only want tax cuts for the rich”. Someone saying hell no MIGHT make you feel better but they will have to pass something Bambi will sign.
Why aren’t you guys thinking? It is embarrassing to see so many Freepers not thinking like you guys.
We have too many people opining on issues they clearly don’t understand.
Boehner is right on target. Listen to the interview - not the interpretation.
Best to get the facts before you speak up and look the fool.
We don’t control the show right now. We may have to take what we can get for the moment. The tax cuts that can be extended will certainly benefit me, as I am self employed.
On the other hand, if Boehner said “all or nothing”, what would the Dems do? If they let all the cuts expire, I don’t see that doing anything but hurting them more in November. Most of their support doesn’t pay tax anyway, and cares more about gay marriage and free handouts than any financial issues.
Boehner made a brilliant move. If the Dems were to actually introduce legislation to preserve the middle class tax cuts and let them expire for the “wealthy” before the election, there is no way he could hold the Republicans together to vote against that bill. It would be political suicide to stand on this principle and give the Dems the ability to say that the GOP cares more for the rich and you ordinary Americans. So why not take this off the table and just say what would happen. “We think this is a bad idea but we will vote for it because some of what we want is better than nothing.”
The Dems were getting ready to say that they couldn’t keep the tax cuts for the middle class because the GOP opposes it. And they were going to do that without ever actually introducing legislation. Boehner just ripped the football away.
Remember the goal is to win the war not every skirmish. Sometimes you strategically retreat to lure your enemy into a position of weakness so you can annihilate them.
Yeah, you're right--they'll just stop that argument right away, won't bring it up once from now on.
Someone saying hell no MIGHT make you feel better but they will have to pass something Bambi will sign.
And you MIGHT want to respond to what is actually written instead of your imaginary dragons.
As I stated, you don't give this stuff up BEFORE you get to the actual work on the bill. You stand your ground, build support in the public by explaining your reasons.
Think: Would you rather someone go on TV and right off say "Yep, we're open to negotiation" or someone who says "Bob, you're characterizing this as Republicans standing in the way of a tax cut. It's a lie, Bob. Now I'm going to explain to the American people why they should support continuing the Bush tax cuts."
Why is that so difficult to grasp?
It is embarrassing to see so many Freepers not thinking like you guys.
So you're embarassed by those who don't think the way we do--as in, you're embarassed by those who think like you?
If you'd stop with the poorly-written insults and think beyond the moment, you might learn something beyond what Boehner is teaching, which is that all that talk about tax cuts hurting the economy was just that, talk.
He didn't fall into the liberal/MSM trap of "protecting" the rich. The class wafare game is back in Obama and the democrats court, where it should be.
Knee jerk reactions only confuse the issues.
I agree when I first heard this reported I thought uh oh here we go another RINO sellout. When I actually heard the clip on the radio I thought brilliant move. Between this and his impassioned speech against healthcare I think we could do a lot worse than have Boehner as speaker. Sure beats Denny Hassert and Pelosi, well that’s kind of goes without saying.
