Decapitated body found near Evanston school

Evanston police were called out to a field near a middle school after a man walking his dog this morning discovered a decapitated body there.

Police have pushed the media back from the area after discovering what appears to be an explosive device near the body, WGN-Ch. 9 reported about 8:40 a.m. Some residents were being evacuated from their homes. The Cook County sheriff's bomb squad was on the scene.

Bombers heads get blown off from the force of the explosion.

True, but that is the case in situations when the bomber is wearing a suicide vest and there is not much of the body left. I don't see how an explosion pops a head off like a cork and the body stays intact.

Glad some adult found the remains, and not some innocent kid or kids. 5:15 a.m. is pretty early time to be walking the dog, I wonder if the adult was looking for the site of the explosion.

I doubt the Evanston PD has a lot of experience with explosive devices. They'll probably call in those idiots from the downtown office of ATF(E) to do the gruntwork for them.

Hmmmm....the next question is why was the guy fooling around with a pipe bomb? Hope it wasn’t some kid just messing around with exlosives and got himself killed. What is that area in Chicago like? Is it gang infested or middle class?

Well, the position of the legs would indicate a severely broken back. We don’t know much more about the condition of the remains yet. For all we know, the body could be mangled much more than has so far been reported.

Not if you have to be downtown by 8 or so. If you're taking Metra into the city you'd probably want to be at the train station by 0630 or so. When I was doing that trip from the burbs I was walking my dogs at about 0530 or so.

If this guy set it off just walking down the street I'd put my money on TATP as the compound involved. That stuff isn't called Satans Mother for nothing.

Same chemistry involved in that kid who blew up outside an Oklahoma football game, IIRC.

The story also says there was a second device, unexploded until the bomb squad dealth with it.
