Karl Rove on Hannity: There Are 'A Lot Of Nutty Things' O'Donnell's Been Saying (VIDEO)
Talking Points Memo ^ | 09/15/2010 | Jilian Rayfield

Posted on 09/15/2010 6:19:13 AM PDT by Brices Crossroads

Karl Rove and Sean Hannity duked it out tonight over Christine O'Donnell's win in the Republican Senate primary in Delaware, with Rove, surprisingly, calling some of O'Donnell's remarks "nutty" and conceding that "this is not a race we're going to be able to win."

"This was about Mike Castle's bad votes," Rove said tonight on Fox News. "It does conservatives little good to support candidates who, at the end of the day, while they may be conservative in their public statements, do not evince the characteristics of rectitude and truthfulness and sincerity and character that the voters are looking for."

Rove pointed out that there have been a lot of questions about O'Donnell's finances, and some of her allegations against Castle. Hannity fired back that he interviewed her about all of those things.

"Did you ask her about the people who were following her home to her headquarters?" Rove asked, adding: "There are just a lot of nutty things she's been saying."

"We were looking at eight to nine seats in the Senate," he continued. "Now we're looking at seven to eight, in my opinion. This is not a race we're going to be able to win."

Thank you for posting this...

Now: Below is the verbatim text of a email I received from Karl Rove after I unloaded on him last night in an email subsequent to his Hannity appearance. I included my professional contact information just to assure him that my message was not from a lunatic. The key point is that while Christine is flawed, the tipping point is close. Karl has said his piece...but this revolution won’t necessarily be won exclusively and entirely by folks meeting his government standards of purity. Obama’s thuggery would roll over a Castle. What will you do, brother Karl, if Christine wins? Huh? Anyway, the email:

QUOTE:
“If we attack President Obama for putting people who can’t pay their taxes into his Administration, how can we defend a Republican candidate who doesn’t pay her taxes, her college bills, or her mortgage; has had no visible means of support; and sued a reputable conservative organization claiming she was the victim of sex discrimination? She didn’t win the lawsuit: her employer said she was fired for trying to run her own pr consulting firm out of their offices while on their clock. We conservatives want conservative candidates, but we do our cause little good by nominating people with serious questions about their fitness and character.

As to your offer of a lecture from you about mistakes you think I made during my White House years, I’m busy raising $50 million to elect Republicans like Rubio, Toomey, Portman, Blunt, Buck and Angle, so you’ll excuse me if take a pass on dialing you up. I’ve got a few more productive calls I’d like to make.”
END

MY EMAIL:

Karl,

You are wrong. Fundamentally.

Christine in DE is a flawed candidate. True. But she is so far ahead of Castle in terms of adherence to conservative principles, that the choice was no contest. Lower the probability statistic assigned to victory, but multiply the importance of victory by several orders of magnitude.

I am dismayed by your regurgitation of inside-the-beltway talking points.

Just so you know: I am a not the usual rabble rouser. Well-trained, multilingual, globally experienced.

Obama is a menace to America’s survival. RINO’s won’t cut it. Get on board or get out.

I would be happy to speak with you about the mistakes you made advising Bush relative to immigration and other more currently pressing issues. A course correction on your part could help our republic.

My contact information follows.

END

IMHO..Rove was actually tryin gto build his credentials as “the one” who could broker Tea Party deals. He doesn’t understand the Tea Party has no leaders authorized to do such deals. He’s pissed because he’s out of the “power broker” loop as We the People are starting to take responsibility for vetting candidates directly. Wait ‘til all of DC figures out that with modern communications and alternative media...there’s no need for “power brokers” or lobbyists.

It will really just start to get ugly then...

If this was about Castle’s “bad votes” then if nothing else this primary was about holding him personally accountable for them. Win or lose the November election, the message to Republicans is clear: We are a conservative party. If you want to be a socialist, you have another option for your political affiliation.

Magnificent idea, sjneuf! Mine is personalized. I met him. I’ll suggest that they cross off my name and regift it.

Rove’s comments are defensible and entirely on target. Republicans faced two bad choices in the Delaware primary and just because Rove supported the lesser of two evils does not make him wrong or a RINO. Rove is a conservative and wants that ideology to govern which it has no chance of doing with any Democrat in office. If McDonnell wins the general election, I will eat these words, but even sitting here in Texas, I can see she is very vunerable general election candidate.

I want the most electable conservative to win, not the most conservative statement to be made.

Rove, you Magnificent Idiot!

If he is the brain behind “compassionate conservatism” he is major part of the problem.

When I saw Rove I could not believe my ears.

It was like I was listening to Michael Steele or Juan Williams or Eleanor Clift or Chris Mathews or Bill Maher.

Rove go join Bush as a RINO.

Karl Rove is a elitist slimy POS. This is the guy who turned against Tancredo over the amnesty issue.

You are right: I agree that the issue was one of two bad choices. Karl, however, has not made the leap to the life-or-death nature of the contest underway. Once Christine won, he should back off and support her. Castle represents a slow lingering death syndrome for our republic; Christine, for all her defects, represents a fighting chance for a Constitutional Republic.

See the email upthread I received from Karl after his appearance on Hannity.

Shalom.

The guy that knows him the best also knows his dad. Unlike his dad (who is pretty much the same on and off camera so to speak)GW has two distinct “faces” if you will. My friend once said, “if I’d taken a secret tape recorder to the ranch, I could have made a whole lot of our friends feel better about him - but if it got out he’d never been elected.”

I’m hoping that after a few more years he’ll decide WTF and just start talking. I doubt this upcoming book has much of “Ranch George” in it. He probably still feels somewhat compelled to emulate his dad in the public arena.

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it’s pretty damning to Rove if it is. Either way, he’s an elite putz.

Thanks for the insight.

Sure wish, even after being called a vigilante.

That Bush was back in the WH right now. This is really bad.

When I witness a people acting in ways I can’t understand, I try to put myself in their shoes and look at things from their point of view.

I have been trying to do this with people here who tie themselves in pretzels trying to excuse Bush’s progressive policies in order to maintain their love for him.

I confess now that I have failed. I just don’t get it.
