As a former Naval Aviator.
Boys will be boys -— but assume you’re always being filmed or be prepared to lose your career
I have done dumber
I was curious to see what reaction I might get from Navy fliers by mentioning Grampa Pettibone. I reckon I’m getting old (like Grampa), and he’s no longer found in Naval Aviation News.
C'mon! Lay some stories on us.
I was stationed on Okino Shima Japan in about 1969. It was a radar site with 2 big golf ball shaped radar domes. Navy F-4s would come in pairs, flying between the domes and doing a touch and go on the barracks roof. There was only a few feet clearance.
The Air Force CO didnt like it and ordered any witness to get the tail numbers. No one did.
It is sometimes asked, rhetorically, what the difference is between a squadron of zoomies and a den of cub scouts.
The answer is that the cubs have adult supervision.
