Rick Lazio will drop out of the governor’s race today, withdrawing from the Conservative Party line, a source told DN Capitol Bureau Chef Ken Lovett.
Farewell for now?
“He’s out,” the source close to Lazio said.
Lazio is scheduled to make an announcement about his future as the gubernatorial nominee of the state CP at a noon presser today.
Another Lazio source said he also expected him to withdraw.
“Rick Lazio alway does the right thing,” the second source said, adding he wasn’t told directly by Lazio.

“What are you looking at, butt head?”
OMG you’re right!
Let’s start calling him that!
Andrew (Biff) Cuomo
He should have retired from politics many years ago.
It’s official!
some articles discuss that Lazio’s name will remain on the Conservative line whether he ends his campaign or not. NY Law does not allow dropping out or replacing candidates at this late date. Does the article confirm this?

Famous last words.
Will the ballots still show Lazio’s name or will they be blank for Conservative governor candidate? And is there an opportunity for the C line to have Paladino’s name instead?
Hoffman needs to do the same immediately.
If only Maes would do the same.
It means that they can put Paladino on that line and that would really help!
How ya doing down in Tejas ?Have you packed your carpetbags yet ?
??? Wasn't Jan Johnson already their candidate and withdrew? Are you suggesting Rick Lazio step in there? Was the withdrawal of Jan Johnson because there were insufficient petitions to get onto the ballot? Does that preclude a move by Rick Lazio?
(I think it would be a very bad move, in any case...NY elections can be very tight...ask Herb London. :-(
And I think the 50,000 is for permanent ballot access, not "get to run in the presidency," per se.
We were all for Hoffman. I don’t see any difference. Either we want to grow third parties or we don’t....can’t have it both ways.
Now if only Tancredo would do the same...

Tancredo doesn’t have the integrity that Lazio has. Tom is a publicity hound. He just likes attention.
Do you know what would happen if I turned in my homework in your handwriting? I’d get kicked out of school. Now you wouldn’t want that happen, would you?
