it sounds similar to Naphtali...in much the same way that Suleiman sounds similar to Solomon and Ibrahim sounds similar to Abraham...
but I have no actual knowledge of the name’s origin...

The boy’s name Neftaly \n(e)-fta-li, nef-tali\ is a variant of Naftali (Hebrew), and the meaning of Neftali is “struggling”.
The baby name Neftali sounds like Nefthali and Nephtali. Other similar baby names are Nephthali, Naphtali, Natal, Nataly, Natalio and Natale.
Neftali is an uncommon first name for men and an equally uncommon last name for both men and women. (1990 U.S. Census)
Displayed below is the baby name popularity trend for the boy name Neftali.
Compare Neftali with its source form and related boy names.

Not Hispanic.
Sounds like a combination of Middle Eastern and maybe Greek?

I’m going to guess Indonesian.
And I’ll go out on a limb and venture that the perp is a Mohammedan and his act was Jihad.
Hey, I could be wrong.

Right know I don't care who he is, or whether his motivation was islam or a fight over a gal (of a guy). Hang him. In theater. Don't bring him home alive.
Two of our soldiers, who had enough daily threats to deal with, get cut down by their supposed brother in arms. Two families are left with a gaping hole in their lives and the added burden of knowing that these soldiers did not die in combat, but were murdered. A third soldier is maimed.
We just lost the service of three brave Americans, and their valuable contribution to the cause. Now our force is weaker by three and three soldiers will be put in their place.

" did the guy convert to Islam or something?"Maybe . . . if he's done hard time in a penitentiary. The only people that "convert" to Islam are men who've done prison time.

Naphtali was one of the sons of Jacob and one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Was there an Arab equivalent?
