If it had been about slavery, they would have taken Lincolns offer.

You are aware that the original seven confederate states had announced their secession long before Lincoln was inaugurated, aren't you?

Announced maybe but hadn’t done it yet. There was still plenty of time to work out a deal. Lincoln was elected in 1860. South Carolina seceded. In 1861 the lower south seceded and formed the Confederacy. Then the upper south seceded right before the Battle of Bull Run. States rights to not be hit with excessive taxes and ruled by an ever increasingly oppressive federal government.
