SAO PAULO A former Marxist guerrilla who was imprisoned and brutally tortured during Brazil's long military dictatorship is the front-running candidate in Sunday's presidential election, though she may be forced into a runoff vote by her centrist rival.

Why does a country that's made great strides economically under a more conservative pres. want to elect a marxist?
Is there masochism in human nature?
For the very same reasons that we elected a marxist muslim.
I sometimes think their mentality is “Okay, the capitalists have made enough money for us to split up now. They made the pie, now it’s time for us to cut it up and serve it.”
Marxists, along with Muslims and Vikings -— and, in times past, Comanches -— are raiders.
They do not create nor build, they raid what others have done and produced. They take it by force or guile. Mainly force.
Watch for the potential of their new found prosperity to disappear as the business/ investors assess what they have.
Is this more people than vote in American elections? I almost think it would be a good idea here or maybe everyone who votes gets a $100 tax deduction or something like that.
How different would American elections be if everyone of eligible age voted? Better for Republicans or better for the Dim Dem Dhims?
Small middle class, large underclass.
I think the combination that made America strong for so long was not merely capitalism, but capitalism COMBINED with social mobility. Unfortunately, for what ever reasons, this combination has largely eluded Latin America.

Why does a country that’s made great strides economically under a more conservative pres. want to elect a marxist?”
Where did NObama send money to develop a new Oil Field?
BRAZIL
“For the very same reasons that we elected a marxist muslim.”
No, we were having great economic downturn, so wanting a big change is actually understandable.
Brazil doesn’t seem to be in that situation.
I think maybe Reily is closer to the answer, unfortunately.
“Because the average voter sees the prosperity, hasnt a clue how it occurred, just knows that somehow a pile of money appeared and now they want their share!”
“I almost think it would be a good idea here or maybe everyone who votes gets a $100 tax deduction or something like that.”
I would rather see a $100 payment to each individual who did NOT vote.
The cost of the money to remove all of the short sighted, magical thinking, free money people would be a fantastic bargain in exchange for having their imbecilic influence removed from elections.

Think about it- Did the money go to develop the oil fields, or to be filtered into a marxist campaign through the oil companies?
Exactly correct.
Americans never really identified themselves within a class structure. It is why traditional socialist party's have had such a hard time establishing themselves here. The huge underclasses in Central and South American lend themselves to the election of a lot of radical marxists. To be fair, Lulu worked out much better than most thought he would considering his background. He turned out not to be the enemy of business many feared.
Everybody thought Lula was a Marxist when he was first elected.
To try to erase the stains of racism and slavery?
NO,,, that’d be the U.S.
