Sounds to me like this homeowner was in the wrong. Everyone else paid their fees to finance the rural fire fighters, but this guy thought he was special and entitled to services he didn't pay for. This entitlement mentality is exactly where this country went wrong, so many years ago.
An earlier poster even had the audacity to say that letting the house burn was immoral, which is complete horse-hockey. What is immoral is expecting others to expend resources and put their lives on the line for you simply because you think you're entitled to it - the idea that the purpose of government or business or any other organization is to take care of YOU. This is the welfare mentality. This is the mentality that says that irresponsible adults should be able to go and pop out 20 illegitimate children because the government should be taking care of them. Americans are supposed to be taking care of themselves. Government is supposed to be limited with specific functions. In the case of this firehouse, we're not even talking about government - we're talking about what amounts to a private enterprise, yet plenty of people still think that they are entitled to free services.
Until we get the majority of Americans back to taking responsibility for themselves, we will never rid ourselves of the oppressive socialist nanny state.

I don’t know about this...so the idea of firefighters crossing state lines to put out forest fires and likewise grand blazes shouldn’t happen?
This kind of changes the definition of what firefighters should do and starts to put bureaucratic constraints on them (according to our records, this homeowner didn’t pay, so...).
Isn’t that what we’re fighting against here???
