TAMPA -- Republican leaders in the Sunshine State are fretting that a deal may be in the works to get Democratic nominee Kendrick Meek out of the Florida Senate race in order to boost Charlie Crist's flagging chances of beating Republican Marco Rubio.
Across the state, groups such as Palm Beach Democrats for Crist and Tampa Democrats for Crist are emerging. Republican fears are further stoked by the almost universal acknowledgment that Mr. Meek has almost no chance to win. Statewide polling has his support in the teens and falling. His money coffers are all but dry. Democrats had hoped that when Mr. Crist abandoned the GOP for an independent run, it would split the Republican vote and propel Mr. Meek into the winner's circle. With four weeks to go, no one believes that now. Mr. Meek, who is African-American, polls strongly only with black voters.

And again the Dems slap the black man across the face....
Which says a lot for the reasoning ability of black voters. Jezz, what a bunch of ignorant racists. Perfect sheep for the liberal fascists.
Obama will not let Meek get kicked out of the race. Actually, the entire DNC would be up in arms over that one because it would symbolically give Florida to the Republicans to carve up as they wish, while destroying the state Democrat party.
Meek will not drop out because if he does then it drives black turnout down to nothing and cost the Democrats any hope of winning the Governor’s race. Meek pulling out simply takes his few votes home and doesn’t improve Crist’s chances at all. IMHO.
Plus, a lot of Dem voters are "ticket" voters, meaning they don't go down the row and choose every Democrat. They choose the spot that says "vote the Democrat Party ticket" which will NOT include Crist. So there will be a lot of Dems will not vote at all in the race if there is no Democrat to vote for.
Meanwhile, the Democrats risk alienating black voters with this sort of trick and I'm sure a few have hard feelings from this or that decision that Crist made as governor and will hold that against him.
So, just like the Castle write-in threat, I say "just go ahead and try it". It won't work.
‘Skunk’ Crist will not get Republican votes. Meek dropping out would supress the Black vote. Rubio has it in the bag.
Very interesting dynamics. It’s noteworthy how often of late that when the two-party cartel is strongly challenged it is one of the two so-called “major” parties that fades quickly into third-party status.
Maybe Crist could show up to a debate in blackface? would that work?
Crist was saying “meek is too inexperienced” as code for “he is black”. it was a dirty trick but democrats have a big bus for throwing bodies under.
Meek will be paid off and will pull out.
Rasmussen has Rubio at 50 TODAY!. If this is correct, how will Crist win by Meeks dropping out?
Even if Meek gets strong-armed out, wouldn't his name still appear on the ballot?
As long as Meek's name appears on the ballot with a 'D' next to it, the damage is already done --- and Rubio is guaranteed to be your new Junior Senator from Florida.
Rubio also polled over 50% for the first time today...there’s a link somewhere around here from this morning...
He'll be somewhat humiliated when he loses the election.
He is already ON the ballot; we just got our "sample" ballot in the mail today.
The die is cast, Florida will go for Republican Rubio.
Wasn’t 0bama and Gore both recently campaigning for Meeks?
Also, I think the Democrats understand that they stand to lose a lot more than a Senate seat long term if they force this black candidate out of the race and leave Florida without a Democrat in the race. Disappointment in 0bama is already sky-high among his base.
Because of these two factors, I don’t see it happening.
It’s already done. Rubio hit 50% already, and outpolls Crist 2:1.
He is unstoppable now.
I tend to agree with you and everyone who said that this probably won’t happen. But it is interesting that they were desperate enough to float this trial balloon.
The Florida legislature should begin impeachment proceedings against this creep.
The Dems are completely desperate.
