There is no “our money”. They spent it. It’s gone. The money you are getting now is your kids, and grandkids money.
I’m getting older, too, BTW—close to that presumed retirement age. Most of us can and will work ‘till we croak. Our own fellow Baby Boomers (e.g., feminists/romanticists fond of Hillary) spent most of our retirement dough on other social programs and on their government salaries.

What? To have the government steal their money? We had no choice with FICA, neither did our employers. I would have gladly invested that money in an account in my own name that would actually be there at retirement.

#2 will never happen unless it can be blamed on someone else like Bush, Reagan, deficits, etc.
What SHOULD happen is to cut off all foreign aid, especially to build mosques around the world, eliminate, Dept. of Education, EPA, Energy and put that money back into the fund and invest it the same way union pensions are invested in private enterprise, which no one points out or complains about.
But, we all know with the feckless and spineless Congress critters we have, #1 is the more likely scenario.

You are 70 years late with that refrain. Taxes are taxes. It was never a scheme to accumulate capital. They lied. That doesn’t mean you deserve “your” money more than kids deserve their money.
It is pitiful to watch people throw the younger generations under the bus to get more money. Sad, desperate, and degrading.

As I have posted many times before, cutting those programs is a great idea.
But trying to offset the structural deficits in Social Security and Medicare by cutting that shopping list of other government programs is like trying to drain Lake Erie with an eye dropper.
And as I said, the only thing the feckless, spineless Congress will do is play the blame game and kick the can down the road AND raise taxes.

I’m just sick of people who are just entering the workforce, claiming to be staunch conservatives and making it sound like old people are collecting welfare. Maybe when they have worked for 40 or 50 years and watched their FICA deductions exceed their tax deductions for most of those years they, too, will realize that was their income that was flat out stolen and getting some of it back is anything but welfare.

You cannot “stick” anyone with the bill for your upkeep and then dictate the terms upon which you will receive other peoples money.
Yes, we would all be much better off if we could have tax money returned to us.
You may be old, you may be sick, you may be infirm, or you may be none or some of those things.
You are not entitled to enslave younger generations so you can get a check from the government.
